Nooooooo!

Another boat pulled right in front of me as I was about to tack into the wind and make a nice, gentle landing parallel to the shore.

It caused me to swerve to avoid it, then keep plowing straight towards shore at 10 knots, not giving me enough time to remove my daggerboards.

Thus, my right daggerboard snagged the ground and now has a sizeable (about 1x2") dent in it.

Is this fixable? Or is it time to look for a brand new set of daggerboards?

its fixable, I'm pretty sure, I'll wait for one of the more knowledable repair-men to give you s tep by step before I chime in with my ideas and find out its woefully inadequate, but I wanted to let you know that a thourough check of the boards wells is probably in order, cracks in there can take on more water than you'd think, and they can be a royal pain to seal.

The board is totally fixable--don't sweat it.

The real concern is the daggerboard well, as mentioned; inspect it very carefully to make sure the hull isn't compromised.

I had a similar situation with mine as well when the crew (JP- you know who you are) didn't pull them up when asked.
I used some two-part fiberglass repair with glass matte and it turned out well, just make sure it is dry and you sand it well. The painting/gel-coat part I haven't figured out yet. The stuff is available at west marine/boat US.

Show us a picture and we can probably give you some very specific ideas. Sounds very repairable.

I'm going to take a peek at the daggerboard wells tonight.

I'll try to grab some snapshots then.

Thanks for the optimism!

Sounds like a good opportunity to buy another set of boards, and use these as "practice" boards. Chicks dig scars....

Thanks for the tips guys.

I picked up that marine epoxy and repaired the daggerboards 2 days ago. It was amazingly easy and they're good as new now.

People at my local marine store laughed when I asked if I needed to buy new daggerboards...

you would be amazed at what can be repaired in the right hands.
