Is it normal to see the top of the post( from the dolphin striker) on the bottom of the mast step?

as posted on the Hobie forums...

Yes you should see the top of the striker post in the cup. The striker post threads into the H16 step casting. The top of the post should be flush with the bottom of the cup.

Play? I would be concerned. If the post is working loose in the step casting it might end up pushing up and through.

Seems like the play is more down where the post and dolphin striker meet. The post seems pretty tight in the mast step.

Then you likely need to tighten up the striker rod. Nuts are on the ends at the corner castings. Should be snug, but not overly tight on a 16.

I am a little apprehensive about doing that.I have never adjusted them or heard of anyone adjusting them before. What are the reprocussions of too tight. How do you know when it is too tight or too loose?

It's easy to do, Mike. Just take a turn or two on each side, then hit the dolphin striker rod with your hand. When it makes a "thummm" sound (instead of a "clang"), it's tight enough.

Make sure to tighten it evenly (same number of turns on each side). Unless you really torque on it, it's hard to get it too tight.
