I just recently purchased a hobie 14. I love the boat but it is a 1970 and in need of some TLC. Anyone know a good source for parts? Do the Hobie 14 parts sold in the Hobie catalogue even fit this older model? The whole steering system needs to be replaced. I have it jury rigged with duct tape and plunger handles!!!!!! Any advice would be appreciated.

Hobie doesn't sell direct to the public, but you can find a dealer at hobiecat.com or call 1 800 hobie49 to get one. I have a hobie catalogue of parts and accessories from 1999. It fully describes all the parts for all Hobies and gives prices. I have ordered many parts from Rocky Mountain Boatworks with no trouble. You don't want to buy major components, since they are more expensive than a used boat. My H14 is a 78 and all parts purchased have fit.

Another thing, many peoples have spare parts/unused parts and will sell them in the classified. Check your local catamaran clubor their web site, they often have used parts. Ebay is also a good place to check.
Murray's marine http://www.murrays.com " target="_blank"> http://www.murrays.com also has some nice parts like stays, tramp and other stuff. Blocks, pulleys and sheets can be found at the local boat store and Marine TEX and other repair coumpound can go a long way to save a boat.
I have restored a Venture Cat15 a few years back. I always advise everybody to try to sail the boat ASAP to see if they like it before spending alot of money on it. Also, contrary to the Venture Cat that was not a very interesting boat, the Hobie14 can be a very interesting boat. It used to be very popular, many peoples are still sailing it. The Hobie16 is very similar and it is a good siglehandled boat. Sure, all other current singlehandled boats are faster (A-cat, Nacra 18, Inter17, HobieFXone...) but the Hobie14 might be more fun.
