I need a H16 Mast Base. Last Friday, I slipped of the back of the tramp, dropped the mast, and broke the pin hole on the mast base. We still managed to get the mast up, but it was a bi**ch. Anyway, if anyone has a mast base to sell or knows where I can get a used one, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Alan,

Sorry to hear that! Hope you're OK? It's of no consulation, but, it seems like 90% of damage to boats seems to happen when they're NOT in the water.

We missed you at the regatta and wondered where you were. Have you checked in with Fleet 131 yet? Seems like someone would have an old base, although the stops get worn down. You may want to buy new.

I was in the regatta. Jake Dragoo (skipper) and I took 2nd place in 16B with my "ghetto" boat. My boat is the one on the right with the missing numbers (485) and the mismatched sails. We had a great time and met a bunch of people. Sorry I missed you.

After the races on Sunday, Jake took me out for some skipper lessons and I successfully performed my first pitch pole. I'm a little banged up today from the weekend but it was worth it. Anyway, maybe we we'll get another chance to meet.

Looks like a Sunday pic. You're right there with Chris and Matt from our fleet/lake. Congrats on the pitchpole! See you at Texoma for the Mid-Americas? or maybe Tulsa? Hey have fun and you might ask Tom Page about a mast base.

The mast on my old 1977 H-16 had the pin hole broken out, when I got it. I just took the whole mast to my local aluminum welder. He wire fed aluminum on to the base, then ground it to shape, then drilled a new hole. It now works great, and is actually tougher and better than what Hobie did.

i saw one on ebay not long ago, just type in 'hobie 16' and see what comes up. good luck, i broke mine recently too. fortunately my boat stays at a club with mast up. the mast can be "raised" into position easily with the boat on the ground, propped up on one side (i used a kayak paddle to prop mine up) and the mast 'horizontal'(the mast tip resting on the ground).
