Hello everyone.
My name is Karl Brogger, a few of us are re-activating an old fleet number in Mn, and using Lake Pepin, (on the Mississippi), as our home lake. The club has a regatta on the schedule for June 9/10 with D7. We have a few club events on the calender as well. Membership does not require the owning of a Hobie, (The regatta does), but is open to any owners of a beach cat. If any one is interested in joining feel free to give me a call at: 507.301.9019. Thanks,
Karl

I'm boatless.

I'm in too!

I spoke with Karl yesterday and it sounds like the organizational work for this new MN fleet is coming along. I've also come to know Reb, the co-organizer, quite well over the last several years. I think these guys are going to do a great job getting this fleet off the ground. Reb brings some great experience having been in a club with a similar format. All cats welcome. Cruising as well as racing events. Some group travel events to other spectacular sailing venues. If you are in MN, IA, or WI think about joining in on the fun. Lake Pepin is in the South East part of the state and is between 1 and 2 miles wide and over 20 miles long. Get those cats cleaned up over the winter and be ready for some summer fun!

The concept behind the new Fleet is to encourage greater participation through more recreational events offering a supportive, inviting format which gets more folks out on the water. As Karl noted, except for the Hobie Points regatta, all catamarans are welcome, as well as all experience levels.

For those interested/looking to participate, the new Fleet has tentatively scheduled the following events for 2007:
* May 19th "Spring Tune-Up" Fun event - Get the cobwebs / snow off the boat and come out for a sail. Depending on conditions we might sail down to Pepin, WI for lunch/beer/coffee at the Pickle Factory. Lake Pepin, Lake City, MN
* June 9-10 "Lake Pepin Hobie Points Regatta" - Hobie Division 7 one-design event. Lake Pepin, Lake City, MN
* July 21 "Lake Pepin Distance Rally" Fun event. 22 miles of lake, so let's go someplace! Lake Pepin, Lake City, MN
* August 24-26 "Apostle Islands Catamaran Rally" Buffalo Bay Campground, about 3 miles north of Bayfield, WI. This is GREAT sailing for cats...nice distances to cover, lots of beaches to pull up on...wonderful, big water wind. This should be considered an open water event.

"Fun events" are intended to be just that...inclusive, relaxed, inviting for all cat sailors, no matter what your experience. While you are always racing someone, no bouys, no race committee, just get out and go fast!

And yes Mike, Canadians welcome.

Hope you can join us,

Reb Blanchard
