The unavoidable has finally arrived. We had only cats (a mix between F16 and F18) and now we have opened a couple of fields for monos.
The boat of choice... a laser.

It is curious how different tactics are in the two cases, moreover for a planning boat that can also sail by-the-lee.

The problem we face at tacticat is how to keep interest for cats now <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

That's exactly the problem.

We're organizing now Christmas Race, trophys for best sailors sailing BOTH Lasers an Cats. Mono sailors are complaining but they will get only half the points if they only sail half the boat <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Tacticat really is fun (and educational) - if you haven't tried it you really should give it a go.

Just wait we have the code for rule 18 working.

Trying to really understand the rules is a nightmare. I've never seen before how things can be stated a way that complicated. And re-reading just makes things worse. No matter if it is the english original or the spanish or french translations.

It is curious too, when dealing with cats, that definitions have to change. I don't think the ISAF rule book is written with cats in mind.

Just a token, the definition of overlap: in many cases a cat that is hitting the rear of another boat and has to be considered the fouling boat might discuss the judgement because THE OTHER HULL (part of the boat) had an overlap.

Or maybe it is that today I've re-read twice the rule 18 and feel completely desolated.

Are you saying here that the cat boys have no trouble switching boats, while the mono's are huffing and puffing and crying foul for having to sail a cat ?

I always knew that I was hanging with the right crowd !

The new laser field is definetly bringing more sailors to tacticat, but it is also splitting the fleets. The mono-sailors not being able to switch to cats is their problem, they should get used to it. Regarding the half-boat thing, I think cat sailors and mono-sailors should both get the same points. You could argue that cats are 2x the mono's, but mono's are def. more tactical in the field.

Of course, I didn't explain it correctly, what I meant is that for that trophy if you sail only lasers or only cats you will get only half of possible points.

Total score will possibly be the sum of best 5 races sailed with lasers plus the sum of best 5 races sailed with cats.

Then I may have half a chance of placing! It is very tough getting a decent start in the Lasers......

Why is that? I haven't had a chance to use the Laser fleet yet.

Can you bet the big money in the Laser fleet too? What's best is that your winnings (or debt) fade away after about 10 days or so. It's like FREE MONEY! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Lasers are hard to start I agree, I'd say its the bumpers but thats probably just 'cause I'm not quite used to them yet....

Ok, Amando, I understand now, that makes more sense, sounds like a plan....
