Hi alltogether,
I'm writing from Barcelona, Spain and I'm looking for buying an used hobie 16.
My budget is not so high and the opportunities are for sure quiet old boats.
Lets say year 1980-1985.
Probably they have several repairs.
Which are the most important points to check ?
Sails, fiberglass parts, ropes,...??

Thanks in advance,
Miquel.

Not sure if that applies to the HC France (Europe) boats.

Miquel,

I have an '85 H-16 that I bought new. I find that shroud wires and rudder cams are commonly replaced items. Check for wear on the bottom of the hulls where the boat has been pulled up on the beach. My hulls actually wore through and someone patched them with resin. I haven't had any problem since. Look for damage or softness in the hulls.
the condition of the sails and the trampoline needs to be checked. If I bought a used boat of that year I would replace shrouds and lines to be safe.

After all the time that I have owned my boat, it is in very good condition and I have spent very little money on repairs.

Howard
