On September 21, the Ocean Conservancy is coordinating the annual International Coastal Cleanup Day.
In NY, nearly a quarter *million* lbs of debris were collected in last year's cleanup. Wow.
This year it's going on for 2 days, the 21st and 22nd, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Many parks are participating; and the deal usually is, you go to the office, sign in and collect gloves and bags, then return the full bags for weigh in and collect a certificate of some kind.
Here's a list of Long Island Parks participating: Belmont Lake State Park, Jones Beach State Park, Hither Hills State Park, Montauk Point State Park, Robert Moses State Park, Caumsett State Historic Park, Wildwood State Park, Orient Beach State Park, Sunken Meadow State Park, Heckscher State Park, Captree State Park, Nissequogue River State Park, and Hempstead Lake State Park.
For further information, you can call the State Parks Regional Recreation Office at (631) 669-1000, ext. 247.
Interested LI area Catsailors, we're trying to get up a group at Heckscher, to weigh in together and try to make a noticeable impact. RSVP if/when you can make it!
