The winners were Ran Stav and Ron Barak (ventilo 20),
This Team came from France to Israel on a Hobie Formula 20
Back in 1991, and I believe it was the longest trip ever made on a beach catamaran

"France to Israel "- it's certainly further than I'm willing to sail a beach cat! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

How long did it take?

I believe it took 6 weeks,
The longest distance they did at once was from Cyprus to Israel, 18 hours on the trampoline, (and 200 sandwiches)

While certainly noteworthy, that distance is eclipsed by the crazy fools that crossed the atlantic on a catamaran.

I don't know, but they had a ton of health problems when they got to the carribean.

The guy that sailed a Tiki 21 around the world, made a big chunk of the Pacific crossing on a diet of tuna and bannanas!

Better him than me! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I can't believe someone brought banannas on board a boat.

and lived to tell about it.

Deefinitely not. Lots of people crossed the Atlantic and completed very long cruises.

To cite one who was featured in Catsailor Magazine, Roberto Pandiani sailed a Hobie 21 from Miami, US to Ilhabela, Brazil. Then he sailed another H21 from Chile to S.Paulo, via Maggelan Strait. Then he went from Cape Horn to Antartida in a highly customized H21.

Then he (finally) abandoned the H21 to participate in the Tybee - and followed to New York and Greenland. Take a look at this site (choose English).

I am sure there are more people attempting simmilar feats.

heh

It took us 17 hours to do 100ish miles from Jupiter to Cocoa beach during the Tybee 500.

That was ... fun.

It took us over 20 hours to complete the Round the Island last weekend... very light winds. My butt still hurts.

I wish I could find the full account of the "Tiki" voyage. It is a primer of how not to circumnavigate! For instance, in the "bannana" episode, he had to eat them before they rotted! To vary his "diet?" he tried spreading tuna on them!!! Ugh!

Seriously, my hat is off to all of you who do long, open sea voyages on beach cats. When I "cruise" on my Tiki, I make sure landfall will occur before the ice melts!
