I found that no matter how many books you read there is no substitute to just good old time out on the water.

Thats why over christmas my boats going to be out there everyday for a good 3-4 hrs

A monohull guy told me all the catamaran books are works of fiction.

I can attest then, that that monohull guy has never won anything with substance on a catamaran.

Get "Around the World in 79 Days" by Cam Lewis. It's about them racing a 80' cat around the world to set a new record, well before "The Race". Some real white knuckle sailing in the roaring 40's at night!

Also "The Race" by Tim Zimmerman is very good.

I second "The Race" by Zimmerman. He is a well known author for telling non-fiction adventurer events such as sailing and Everest expeditions etc. You will not want to put it down.

Anything by Tim is going to be an entertaining read! I'm going to see if I can pick that one up myself!

Come on now Jake, Its incredible the amount of science, attention, skill, and dollars to hired crews to make that 0.1 knot difference.

We are actively working on the local mono-haul community to overcome this "its just a hobie" stigmatism. I’m not quoting you btw. More to follow on this effort.

I've read "The Race" 3 times now.

Highly recommended!

"Close to the Wind" by Pete Goss. The story of Pete Goss' Vendee Globe campaign. Plenty of good sea stories, and quite a bit about what it takes to campaign an expensive boat using other people's money.

Pete Goss later went on to build Team Philips for The Race, but lost the craft in sea trials.
