What is your favorite sailing glove? - 04/05/07 09:12 PM

I've been usng some basic gloves that I got from West Marine when in my H16. Is any other glove going to be that much better if I want to get a new pair? What do you suggest?

Thanks

Ive always used Ronstan sticky race gloves, the kind that covers 3 fingers, and absolutley love them. They are comfortable, offer good protection and last quite a bit.

Sailing Angles race glove, it shreds(literally) and has lasted a long time

I use Harken gloves. My only complaint is that the short fingers aren't quite long enough on the pointer finger for me. But I have freakish-ly long fingers. I used them all last year and they seem to hold up well.

Ronstan short finger does the job very nicely and lasts quiet a while

I like the black magic full fingers. They hold up well. I have mine modified a bit for reasons other than durability, however....

Anyone try these by Gill They have these at West Marine. Look good but someone said they are slick when wet.

I used the West Marine brand $17 gloves last few races and they worked fine.

I am a big fan of the full finger gloves (except the index/thumb). I have used a set of gill for the last year or so... will probably need replacing in a couple months. Also, the 1-2 dollar latex gloves work well provided you don't have an arriba tiller- no grip- but they work great holding lines.

Hi Fender,

Those Gill Championship are what I bought my crew.

I've used them a few times and they're markedly more comfortable than my Gill deck hands.

The Glenn Brown, Off Shore Distance Racing Laminate Structured Hand Protection System. Rick may have them. Murrays might have them.

I have used the gill championship for years, with great luck (on the big boat, cat and dingy). I think Trey had a bad experience with them. I bought a second pair for when they fall apart, but they just will not die for me.

I use the Gill Championship's too, my crew went through a pair in two seasons, but ive had mine for about 3...they are my favorite and I don't like the Ronstan Sticky gloves or the Harken Black Magic.

I know this is heresy, but I love the sport gloves that I get from Walmart for about 7 bucks. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I used Mechanix gloves and Fox Racing moto gloves for my first two seasons. I could barely afford to get the boat to water then so I used what I had.
