Offshore buoy shows less than 10 knots of SE breeze and waves still over six feet. Surf reports three- to four-feet along the shore. Watch for the breeze to back a bit in the late morning hours to an easterly. There will be some spin work after they get past the Cape - the shuttle is on the pad, so they get a nice view.

Thanks for the thread, info, and updates John.

Wish I were there racing ,--seeing a great day of racing in Fla. like Tues. with high winds and seas, --its killing me.

Most know the team that rounds closest to the cape in lighter winds has the best chance to get around it first though the inlet tidal current comes into play . Also with the shuttle out they have to stay outside the yellow cans offshore after that .

We had gunboats with loud speakers and 50 caliber machine guns to back up their warnings chase us off around them one year racing the 1000 mile version of the race .

Safe journey to all .

going around the cape in less than 10 is going to be a pain

Don't want to hijack JW's thread, but. . .

Is that an obstruction? Who has right of way?

Indeed, "thanks and safe journey" to all.

Re: Tybee Wednesday - 05/16/07 02:31 PM

Got to watch the start via one of the web cams - lighter air made the surf a real challenge. TCDYC and SeaCats (pretty sure it was them) struggled the most, finally getting outside the last break about 15-20 minutes late. Not sure if they could hear me cheering them on... I was pretty loud.

Re: Tybee Wednesday - 05/16/07 02:32 PM

Its been 30 minutes since the start. Anyone hear anything?

I'm on a teleconference or else I'd be dialing people up.

Re: Tybee Wednesday - 05/16/07 07:50 PM

Thanks for that, I had forgotten how desolate it is between canaveral and Daytona.
Weather sites and confirmed on the beach that the wind has indeed picked up to around 15 but still from the east.

Re: Tybee Wednesday - 05/16/07 09:17 PM

Trey just called me

he said that he snuck into the beach in the last 20 feet in front of Tiki.

He's excited. I'm stoked for them.

He told me that it was a spinnaker reach for the last 25 miles or so. Alan had the tiller most of the time while Trey (aka, Ox) man-handled the spinnaker sheet.

He said that they had a killer time and were yelling at the top of their lungs.

Seriously?! Would it help? I have an awful time getting through any surf at all!

Re: Tybee Wednesday - 05/17/07 01:23 PM

A paddle helps a great deal when you've just had your forward velocity halted due to a wave.

It can get the boat moving right after a wave so the rudders can bite.
