Hobie 16 Raffle Boat for the H16/20 Nationals - 05/25/07 11:29 PM

It's time to hype this up again! Hobie Division 3 just released more tickets for the general public.
(Let's see how this post goes over here!)

We are currently gearing up for the Hobie 16/20 National Championships in Alameda California. It will be held the end of July and early August in the beautiful East San Francisco Bay. We expect a large turnout and hope you can make it!

We are raffling a brand new Hobie 16 in support of the Legal Assistance for Seniors of Alameda County.
Legal Assistance for Seniors (LAS) is a non-profit agency serving Alameda County residents who are 60 years of age and older.

They provide legal advice and information, representation in court and administrative hearings, referrals to other community resources, and community education and training on legal issues.

This H16 will be sailed in the event by Armando Noriega Jr and will come with a personalized tune up seminar.

To purchase tickets in support of LAS, please contact me via email, or purchase online at www.hobie16nationals.com

Only 500 tickets will be sold. Cost is $25 per ticket or 5 for $100. We just released another lot of tickets to the general public and they will go fast!

Winner must pay California sales tax and will be responsible for picking up the boat from Alameda (i.e. get your friends to double stack it home for you).

Hope you can make it to the regatta!

It's the North Americans

not the Nationals.

Wow!... Great support from yourself... I assume the local dealer. Congratulations and thanks for your efforts.

Why would you think it would not go over well?

Its a positive thing for the sport and if your personal cup of tea is a Hobie 16 or you support this particular charity its a great thing! (actually first I heard of the raffle)

The Hobie 16 bashing (F16 Bashing, F18HT bashing, Tornado bashing, A cat bashing, Nacra F17 etc etc bashing) all start when somebody goes a little over board and makes a comparison between boats, my boat is xxx and your boat is not xxx and so not as good. OR... hypes their favorite flavor a bit too much for someone who then just has to fire back. When it gets personal and falls to stupid ad hominum attacks its time to turn off the thread....

In my view... better to be talking publically about the plus's and minus of your boat, your class, and the sport ... then quietly going stale in peaceful obscurity as organization on your own private pond.

Some classes, Sharks, and Isotopes, Tornados don't make it a point to have a visible public foot print on this or any other forum. Indeed... the Tornado class would have no footprint were it not for the Olympics and the international class. Is this good? or bad? or are you indifferent?

Notice that Bob Hodges, current A class pres, always makes and effort to communicate about the class, recent events, and let people know about the big events and the prominent sailors in the class on this forum.

Personally, I think this is a good thing and important for the health of the sport in general!... A class sailors raced other boats in different classes in the past and may hop on another class for a championship event. Heck... would you have thought that Alex Schafer, Mike Krantz and Nigel Pitt were A class sailors??? check here for photo proof http://www.sailregattas.com/crac/uploads...0highpoint2.htm

Similarly, the Hobie 16 class has some very succesful racers who occasionaly hop on a new class and go compete in the world. I personally think that some PR is good for the class and so good for the sport.

(Hey... I am still waiting for the Syracuse Mad Catter regatta report... I can only assume that it was SO over the top that nobody has yet recovered to write up a story!)

Have a good holiday and thanks for your support of cat racing.

Re: Hobie 16 Raffle Boat for the H16/20 Nationals - 05/26/07 01:41 AM

Right on Mark! Thanks for the support. We (Surf City Catamarans) work very hard to support local cat racing here in NorCal and all over the world. We are a fairly small shop and try to support our local regattas as much as possible with chase boats on the water, organizing, keeping the gear working, etc. We don't have a ton of dough to give to the regatta committee, and realized that this event was short charter boats, so we cooked up this idea. We have some of the top 16 sailors from all over the Americas wanting to come to this event and very few charter boats, so we stole the idea from some of the other fleets that have successfully done a raffle. So if you buy tickets for this boat, you are not only supporting a great charity, you are supporting our charter boat fleet. Oh, and I am unabashedly marketing my business in the process. And it is the North Americans.

I tried last night and today to purchase with credit card and paypal but it would not fly!
This would be a great excuse for us to take a vacation to the west bank!

There are still tickets availible. Paypal is buggy sometimes. If you purchase 4 tickets for $100 with Paypal, we'll send you 5. If you have trouble shoot me an email and we'll get it taken care of.
