There's already plans for a Paris in jail movie. It'll be titled The Shaw Skank Redemption.

I am in Paris right now, and there really isn't much going on. I just saw some police officers chasing a guy that had stolen something...they can't run very well.
Amsterdam by nightfall though.....

"Shaw Skank Redemption" has GOT to be the best line ever ...

If they only knew how many times we might flip during a competatively raced series, we would have Satellite coverage from CNN,FoxNews, CBS, MSNBC....etc

I still like how the FOX news guys said, "Paris Hilton was in jail for just under 73 hours, heck, I've been in Monopoly jail longer than that!"

Not to be a party pooper but...Women incarcerated typically get out after 10% of their time is served. We have an overcrowded prison system and that is how it is dealt with. According to averages Paris did serve her time. I am tired of Paris H! She is a whiner but she served 10% of her sentence...Next!

Re: OMG! A catamaran capsized at Alum Creek - 06/10/07 04:57 PM

Poop all you want, Dano - most people only get one chance at probation without spending time in the hoosegow. She's been convicted, shown contempt, violated probation twice, and only now is she getting any real consequence - 20 days out of a 45-day sentence. Don't buy the media disinformation. Once again the State steps in where parents seem to be unable - no wonder the prisons are overcrowded... your suggesting 10% sentences as a solution? In an America where justice is already neither swift nor sure?

Wohoo! Another global warming thread!!!

But look at the big picture here. If all us catamaran sailors wrote sympathetic letters to Paris, maybe we could get her to come out for a ride on a catamaran -- think of the PUBLICITY!! The papparazzis (spelling?) would LOVE it.

You need something exciting like an Inter 20 with spinnaker, and Paris on the trapeze. If the media is capable of getting lots of video of that, it will prove that it is possible to do it for the Olympics, as well.

That is specifically the media disinformation I'm referring to; the 10% is tripe. The 10% was uttered once by a legal analyst who was describing what she should have gotten the first time she showed contempt or for her first violation of parole - this number has been siezed upon by media as proof that she is getting a raw deal because she is famous. Total bunk. Her latest sentence was 45 days with a 50% reduction for good behaviour, which she has yet to exhibit.

The justice system in the US is unfair - money and class will get you out of hot water - the situation with Paris reaffirms rather than contradicts this. Our prison system creates more criminals. Commit a crime and the odds are you either won't be caught, won't be punished, or will actually spend time with people who can teach you to avoid getting caught next time. The irony in the Hilton situation is that normally, law enforcement is at odds with Justice due to light sentences and legal technicalities that put offenders back on the street without consequences. Now, we see more law enforcement agencies struggling to meet the sentencing requirements - in part due to mandatory minimums passed by politicians who don't understand the effect of their empty "tough on crime" election-time rhetoric. Overcrowding? Are there more criminals? Is it just that more criminals are being caught? Is it that mandatory minimums are too harsh? Is prison really a deterrent? Recidivism is climbing, class and socio-economic background are statistical standouts in current prison populations... tough issues that made me switch from Criminology to Geology in college.

On topic and a tangent to the Hilton coverage - how many uninformed viewers believed the sailors at Alum Creek were in a life-threatening situation? The readers of this forum know better, but Mike's post drives home that, unless you do, you might take the media coverage to be an accurate representation... I'd bet the sailors told the reporter "hey, it was no big deal really," and that part is in the editor's recycle bin.

Re: OMG! A catamaran capsized at Alum Creek - 06/11/07 08:27 PM

We shouldn't even have prisons. Just large holes where the bodies of criminals are thrown, and burned. Jay walking, to murder one. It would drive crime to a standstill. Just look at Singapore.

I've joked for a while now that police squad cars should carry a cross in the trunk to crucify DWI offenders literally instead of just figuratively.

Re: OMG! A catamaran capsized at Alum Creek - 06/12/07 12:40 AM

Let's be clear here. The second time she was caught driving her car without a licence she was doing 73 miles an hour in a 35 zone.
In this country that would be over twice the limit in a suburban or city street and imediate loss of liceneceeeexcept she had already lost her licenence and already been caught floughting the law and warned not to drive. She was caught for two things at this time. Speeding AND not having a licence.
So, she has wrecklessly endagered other peoples lives twice while ignoring societies attempts to moderate her behaviour.
What irks many less financial people is that she could easily afford a driver.
It is the citezenry that is at risk from drunks and speeders and if little miss spoilt pants does not want to be gently pointed in the right direction then slap her in the side of the head to get her attention and tell her again.
I hear she has now found God. Lawyers are such creeps.

Mary it is simple. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
If she was plucky and showed as much contempt for prison as she did for everything and everyone else and did her time with a sneer and a laugh we would love her. But she is a paper tiger who has proved herself to be utterly vacuous and weak and men hate that. Put simply she is full of s***.

Re: OMG! A catamaran capsized at Alum Creek - 06/12/07 12:54 AM

So, I presume you have NEVER had even a ticket??!!!
I think people who have never had a ticket just have not been caught and should be pulled over and tested by water torture and when they confess they should be crucified...or burnt at the stake or put on the rack or flayed alive or any of that other Christian minded stuff. Evil Inside is right!

Re: OMG! A catamaran capsized at Alum Creek - 06/12/07 06:46 AM

Who she is can be viewed at any time on the net and I don't just mean the skanky sex tapes.
She has used the press to thrust herself into my living room to rub her ego and work her bank ballance for a decade.
What you suggest is like saying we can't make an informed opinion about Adolf Hitler because we don't actually know him.
If it quacks like a duck Mary it wants to stay out of sight in shooting season.
So she's in jail......NOW THAT'S HOT!

Mary,

In the UK, Ms Hilton is a subject of general derision. Ask most people and you will get similar comments as above. Spoilt little brat, simple as that.

You should hear my wife - huge cheers when she went to jail, large jeers when she was sent home, even huger cheers when she got sent back. Lots of derision for how she composed herself throughout the whole thing. I don't think I've ever heard a single positive comment about her, or her mother (who seems to have raised her to be like this on purpose). The last thing my wife would ever want in this world is that somehow PH becomes any kind of a role model for our daughters.

By the way, South Park had an excellent episode on her. Her accessory dogs kept committing suicide...

Re: OMG! A catamaran capsized at Alum Creek - 06/12/07 02:27 PM

It would appear, Mary, that you feel this negativity is undeserved by Ms. Hilton. Would you care to elaborate on your position?

Perhaps we're all secretly jealous of those in postions of influence (wealth, political power, etc.) who flaunt their position recklessly in front of the unwashed masses.

Is she manipulating the media to her gain? I would imagine so. Any publicity is good publicity when you are selling merchandise to teenagers I guess. I presume you could lump Tara, Lindsey Lohan, K-fed, and a few others in this category.

Perhaps what irks me is that the media (most likely because we, the audience, direct their attention through our patronidge) does not show any alltruistic or humanitarian goals sought by Ms. Hilton.

Contrast her publicized activities with those of Bono, the Pitt Family, the late Princess Diana, etc. and you begin to see why the general masses "love to hate" this person.

With great power comes great responsibility.

On the contrary, I feel the negativity on the part of the media is totally deserved (although I don't think the media should ever be paying any attention to her at all).

What amazes me is that so many individuals seem to have led such pristine lives that they feel free to throw stones at her. I know I would feel very hypocritical, because I was once young and single and immature and irresponsible and made a lot of bad choices and decisions.

I think the issue is that this young lady appears to not be learning anything from the bad choices, because there had been no effective punishment meted out until this point (and it is unlikely that even this prison sentence will reform her).

I would like to see the media give less attention to those who continually make poor choices, but they obey the gossip-greedy public.

If no one watched ET or read the tabloids to get the juicy gossip, there would be no paparazzi.

Why? No redeeming character traits in either!
My life has been anything but pristine. I am 14 years clean and sober and I did not change direction because life was going well or my atitude was all love etc.
BUT, when I was running amock I needed a rock bottom and pandering to her won't help us.
I am clear that her personal journey is not our business but driving drunk and then not obeying the court and then driving wrecklessly risks lives.
When I was a nutter I needed redirection for the public good and so does anyone else.
