Got 24 boats so far!! Don't forget to pre-register..... http://home.carolina.rr.com/catfest/
If you are too far away from Juana's check out CatFest. It doesn't matter what you sail, it is a great location and a great time.

Re: CatFest-NC-Sept 8-9 - 08/27/07 11:52 AM

Ed, it is. This will be the first time in a lot of years (since I can remember) that this event will be not run by Jeff Price. Jeff passed away earlier this year from cancer and was one of those big hearted guys who selflessly ran tons of regattas every year and became a friend to anyone easily. The Lake Norman Yacht Club was Jeff's home club.

The 18 squares will be out in FORCE...I heard something like numbers between 12 to 18 squares!

Special Ed,
looking forward to seeing you again!
This will be a special event for all multihullers, Jeff was a guy that left his mark on cat sailing and racing on the East Coast and further. Im certain a fitting tribute to him would be a lot of us showing up to this regatta to show Lake Norman Yacht Club and the community what he meant to us, and what we mean to them.
ps I heard there was a pool going around for whoever took Lunch Trey out... right Wick?

After Hatteras, I don't think Wick needs any help.

Soooo...How did Special Ed (aka: Little Duck) do down there with you guys?

Any of you coming to NASS Race to Oxford this coming weekend? 7 N20s registered so far

Re: CatFest-NC-Sept 8-9 - 09/10/07 01:49 PM

Ed kept up with the boys but it was not the greatest weekend for sailing. Saturday was a wash with the wind showing up only long enough for all of us to get to the course. Sunday, we got one long race in in streaky wind. I have the results at home but F18 was Lennard/Lennard, Wise/Wise, Kohl/Suprenant. Wise beat us with a last minute puff on the other side of the finish line. Olie took the open spin on his double handed Blade but I don't recall how the rest of it shook out. I believe it was all Blades in the top three. In addition to the Blades, open spin had 2 I20s and a Supercat 20TR.

It was a huge fleet and great to see such a terrific turnout at a local regatta again.

Re: CatFest-NC-Sept 8-9 - 09/10/07 01:58 PM

Thanks Jake. If you go and look at our Tuesday night racing results you will see it is turning into an all Blade podium. Great little boats, with good sailors. Hmmm 59.9, 61.5 60.9, 60.0, 59.4, 59.0 - I'm just sayin'

Re: CatFest-NC-Sept 8-9 - 09/10/07 02:32 PM

yeah - same here. The leading I20 was 8 minutes in front of the lead Blade and was corrected over by 3 minutes. Granted, it was light air lake sailing...but still.

Re: CatFest-NC-Sept 8-9 - 09/10/07 02:59 PM

Try rescoring the regatta using the F18 numbers..... Bet it makes more sense then... (your best guess of the average experience and skll assesments of the sailing teams)

Alternatively..
What is the rating that the I20 would have needed to win?

In the end... the F16 sailors can individually opt to use any faster (then their published) rating they want for the regatta.

8 minutes, nice. I would like to beat them boat for boat

PN numbers aside, thanks to the Lake Norman Yacht Club and the organisers of Catfest. Had a great weekend and got to look over a lot of well rigged boats. Great folks, great food. Ed

Agreed. Hank and the rest of the RC did a great job considering the conditions. I'm looking forward to next year.
