One Lap of Lake Murray

One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/13/07 01:35 AM

Columbia S Carolina, December 29, 30, 31st(?). 20 some odd mile distance race around our Lake. Last 3 years temps were in the 60's with good wind. Nice beach, good people, ecellent camping, fireworks(watch out for the Big Nasty!), and its all free...yes, thats right, free.
Jake, can your repost your map? This thread was started elsewhere but needed its on space.
Open multihull, but mostly spin boats. Lemans starts and finishes, no scoring, just fun. Yes there is an elapsed time record thats held by Trey and Jake, so who wants a piece of that? I do....

Cool!

Maybe we can have our reacher/hooter ready by then.

Trey and I set the course #3 record in the first running of the event with 2hrs 4minutes and change on an F18. Susie Ebert Island is very sheltered (and shallow) and has jammed up the fleet in the past as we get around - first one to break free and get back into the breeze is usually gone and rounding that next point into the main body in breeze is the trick. Bringing out the 20 this year.

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/13/07 03:37 AM

LOL!

It will be quite the homemade rig. Old E-scow flat, triangle reacher (found a couple and one has 1958 class stamps on it) and a pole/sprit that is a cut down end of an old tapered mast. Still debating on roller furling or not.

Sounds like a great time! Wish we could come....Wish you all good wind and perfect weather. Let us know the "results"!

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/13/07 02:23 PM

The informal rules we have for this is that you can run the course at any time of the year day or night. Lap times and course to be proven by submitting GPS record to me. This just happens to be the one time a year we get together and try to beat it all at once.

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/13/07 04:57 PM

If anyone would like to donate a GPS...we would love to try. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Maybe when we come in early for the another race.

I've got a couple you can use - good for tracking, not much else. Just let me know when.

When we feel good about the wind forecast.

So what's good? Over 5?
Posted By: Jake

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/14/07 12:10 AM

Distance racing with NO wind is not fun. So yes, we'll wait for the day that it looks like has the best wind...of course, this will be up to popular opinion. The reason we have three different courses is if the wind is light, we can choose to all race one of the shorter courses.

My big print one is with Todd in the Keys - I'm down to one GPS unit (but hoping Santa is going put me in the "good" column)

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/14/07 02:45 PM

Its not that easy son. Im working on my list now, the elves are busy building very nice GPS units, some lucky kids are going to navigate well this year. The others, well, they better hope they can fashion thier lump of coal into a nice compass.

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/14/07 02:49 PM

Rick and Mary, why is Santa listed as a stranger on this site? Dont you think I deserve better?

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/15/07 04:04 AM

I think I'm gonna need a magnatized piece of coal, does anybody know where I can get one?

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/15/07 02:31 PM

Dear Santa,

I would like a pony, a red rocket, clean urine for my PO and a new harness.

Oh and a Hello Kitty backpack.

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/26/07 02:21 PM

Weather for this weekend is looking to be ~OK~ at this point. Temperature is looking good to be near 70 degrees on Saturday and about 65 on Sunday. They are calling for some rain but I wouldn't bet on that quite yet this far out.

Oh, and for the timing thing, no GPS will be needed for this weekend's event since it will be timed. If you want to make a random run at it some other time, you need to have the GPS data uploaded to a PC.

I know we're not planning for anything until Sat. morning - depends on the wind. Currently, wind speed is supposed to peak at 10am so expect something early-ish.

Re: One Lap of Lake Murray - 12/27/07 06:37 PM

Rick,
I was thinking of sat and sunday racing with a campfire on the beach saturday night. Along with the fireworks, and usual Libations and lies. I have heard there will be some competitive guitar hero and xbox games to boot in YOUR RV!

Robin: "You know something, Batman?"
Batman: "What's that, Robin?"
Robin: "She looks very pretty"
Batman: "I thought you might eventually notice that. That single statement indicates to me the first oncoming thrust of manhood, old chum."

It doesn't look like I'll make it this weekend - Bonnie's mom passed away unexpectedly this afternoon and we're all pretty shocked.

Wow Jake sorry to hear about your significant other's loss. Not an easy time to cope with a sudden passing.

May she R.I.P. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
