new project - 12/17/07 08:17 PM

I'm told its an old C-class. she's 25 ft long has a beam of 12' 6" constuction is wood with glass skin. each hull wieghs about 110 lbs. The boat was in the san francisco area in its day. Does anybody out there know anything about this boat or who built it. I'll try to get some better pictures as i get into restoration. I'm going to put a super cat tall rig on it for now. I really like to know what Size rig should be on it.

Any chance of bigger pictures ?

Re: new project - 12/17/07 09:09 PM

...can't tell from tiny pix, can you post larger?
C-class uses 14' beam, 300 s.f. of "sail"
there were some early Brit boats brought over here
you might search that...

Re: new project - 12/17/07 09:19 PM

sorry for the bad picture's i'll take new ones later and post. Digging around on the boat I've now figured out what it is. It's a Hanson Coyote. Does that ring a bell with anybody.

Thanks, this is awsome info. I sent an e-mail to the host of that web site maybe "Joe" has more info. Thanks for the picture upgrade Gary. From what I can tell she's IIA from the picture above. No I do not have the wing.

Re: new project - 12/19/07 06:11 PM

I have spoken to Joe, He owned the boat for many years. The boat is Coyote I narrower hulls than II. She did have a wing sail. In about 1972 The front cross beam failed and the wing was lost. In 76 she was put back together and had several different rigs from off other boats. I now know how she is built (huge help). I guess now the sanding party begins.

Re: new project - 12/20/07 01:18 AM

Very cool project! Do you think you will go back to the wing sail or use another rig?

Re: new project - 12/20/07 04:53 AM

for now I'm going to put a super cat rig on her. i would love to have a wing. maybe down the road. i'm a little afraid that if i build a modern wing, then the hulls would be the draw back. I'm fairly sure she'll just be a cool cruiser. I do feel confident that she'll be fast tho. Today about 30% of one hull got rough sanded.

Yeah, I am jealous that you found a cool project like that!

Re: new project - 12/21/07 03:28 AM

That was how she was rigged when I bought her not sure why she was equipped with such a tiny jib,in the last pic we where using a tornado sport jib, this pic shows her new wing mast rig, and bigger jib (etchells) much taller jib on order for this year!

Re: new project (update 1/1/2008) - 01/01/08 05:36 PM

Both hulls have been rough sanded. the decks of the starboard hull need to be removed and replaced. as well as about 6 frames and a couple of longerons. the port hull is accully in much better shape. I have located a proper mast for the boat 35'6". Now I'm in the proccess of putting the deck back on and patching and fairing. I'm spending the weight and taping all the seams.
hopefully these pictures are better

That looks absolutely awesome! Too bad I am no longer in N CA (Fairfield). I would love to lend a hand and then sail on that monster.

Have you talked to Steve Clark? He's the person I would be asking the previous history C CLass type questions to.

PM me for his email address.

You might contact Skip Elliot of Elliot/Pattison sails. He sails on a C-Class Cats and knows high performance sail making.

Re: new project - 03/27/08 04:03 AM

FYI "Wild Turkey" is in my friends back yard and is for sale. If anybody cares send me a PM. Thank You Bill. Thank You Dan. This boat seems to have a cool history and as I collect the parts to rebuild her I just want to have info from the parts. To tell the story. The next version of this boat is starting to take shape. I now have hulls, mast and a sail. I have run into some delays. So maybe by next summer. Thanks to everybody.
