Singapore Nationals - 03/19/08 01:06 AM

It's kind of cool to see how the forums here allow us to connect with an international community of people with a common love of catamaran sailing. This past weekend, as a result of a post by taipanfc over on the F16 forum I ended up having the opportunity to combine a business trip to Singapore with participation in the Singapore National Catamaran Champs at the Changi Sailing Club.

I crewed for David Adams on a Blade on Saturday and enjoyed meeting a bunch of friendly catsailors from Singapore and elsewhere. The racing was mostly in 16 foot boats - including nine F16s. Quite a number of Vipers and Taipans plus David's Blade. There was a separate start for boardless boats - several Nacra 5.0s and Twincats - the latter a class I hadn't come across before. Scott McCook and Alice Lim on a Viper took out the championship with five firsts from five races.

Interesting and fun to be able to race in a different environment from what I'm used to. The facility at Changi is great, with permanent mast-up storage, a beautiful pool and bar etc. I've posted a few photos I took on flickr and there are a bunch more on the club website.

Good to see you had a good day's sail. Weather and water certainly warmer than what you would have been used to.
