Updates from the IRR

Updates from the IRR - 03/28/08 03:50 AM

After a long travel day including some serious luck in that our plane was delayed (we would have missed it awaiting new video gear arriving FedEx overnight), a midair medical emergency from someone in first class where we thought the plane was going to turn back to Miami, we are in St. Thomas for the International Rolex Regatta.

JC, Trey, and Alan picked us up and took us to the house they are staying at for drinks and conch fritters. Their house is literally built into a bar. The 8 steps from their front door ends at the stage, and the bar is about 20 feet away.

We hear there are 9 cats registered and it is supposed to blow. Tammy will be taking stills that we hope to post each night and video will follow in a few days. Ill try and report as the bar allows.

Re: Updates from the IRR - 03/29/08 02:35 AM

Today had high winds and big seas. JC and Trey flipped shortly after the start when a cruising trimaran cut in front of them. We had two bullet cams on the boat and have multiple angles of the flip! Ill try and get the video and pics up soon, but internet is slow here.

Most of the cats flipped at least a couple times.

Re: Updates from the IRR - 03/30/08 12:33 AM

Day 2 JC and Trey had more problems, 2nd torn jib and a gash in the bottom of the hull. They worked on the boat today in order to be ready for Sunday.

The wind and waves were down a little bit today and most of the cats stayed out through the day. One F18 folded a mast after the forestay shackle broke.

Not true, I sanded all the bad juju away and to be certain, Gunther peed on your hitch chains.

Undecided used to be his right? He just carried the flag onto another boat

My guess is Dessert Trey likes his hair too much, and sabotaged the jibs.
JW where'd ya get the pic, was it a pet squirrel perk?

Some pics...

Talked to Trey, sounds like they were doing good today until the jib halyard broke. The front of the boat is cursed I tell you.

Heres some pics..

It's owned by a conglomerate of obnoxious Florida cat sailors who want a portsmouth beast to defend off other portsmouth beasts.

Re: Updates from the IRR - 03/31/08 02:15 PM

They got no beach wheels for that thing? I saw one picture of 3-5 people pushing it down the sand to the water, on the hulls...What does it weigh?

I've always liked the design of the Roberts hulls, they remind me of the ama's on the 60' trimarans. Are they still building the Super Cat 17,19 and 21 or are there only used ones available? No, I can't afford a new ARC 21...

Re: Updates from the IRR - 03/31/08 02:45 PM

They're pretty close to the F16 weight. Can also be sailed singlehanded.

Re: Updates from the IRR - 03/31/08 02:56 PM

I see from a pic that it can be sailed with a uni-rig too.

Re: Updates from the IRR - 03/31/08 09:54 PM

JC doesn't like beachwheels (at least not his own), some kinda phobia, the issue surfaced in Georgia at SF too.

Did you hear they are working on a new station-wagon version of the Yugo called Weego?

...ok, that worked much better in 1985

Re: Updates from the IRR - 04/01/08 10:01 PM

Actualy, I think they did make a weego. But wasn't it a van not a wagon?
