Hiking out on an H17??

17 owners, do any of you have hiking straps?
I am imagining them low on the wings. I love to hike as late as possible before trapping as I find the cantilever effect gives me a lot of extra control.

On my H18mag I had "footstraps sewn onto the wing covers. My friend used the "screwed on" type using SS #10 screws, they can be pulled off as the screws pass through the holes in the straps. Sewing them on using 2"-3"wide nylon webbing, double layerd w/ some rope or plastic in the middle to add "stiffness" works well except you have to be careful keeping the footstraps properly in-place when lacing the wings. This can take a little effort to get correct.

How are you making out w/ "hooking" that Mainsail ... OMmmmm ... OMmmmm

Or are you talking about installing a strap from wing post to wing post so you can tuck your feet behind it to lean back while still seated on the wing?

None of the H17 sailors in Div11 have anything like that as they usually sail the boat sitting up-right on the wing and if they need more leverage they just hook-up and trap-out. I think they do as I do on the H18mag and tuck/hook my toes under the gunwales. But I have seen "footstraps" on H17 wings

Only foot straps I put on mine where on the wings themselves. Where the tube make a 45 degree or so angle by the sterns. I used these:

and only when it was honking going to weather. The are nice. When sitting on the wings, just put on feet in stock straps or wedge them against the hull and lean back. Have fun!!

I had footstraps just ahead of the rear wing post, screwed into the aluminum track that retains the tramp, which allowed me to hike out seated on the wing of the H18Mag. Worked well. The idea of having footstraps of webbing sewn to the tramp in the same area seems appealing as well, probably cheaper.

Excellent replies thanks any photos appreciated but at least I know it is a good idea.
