Ohio trailer registration?

Ohio trailer registration? - 04/07/08 11:09 PM

I know we've got a few from ohio, so I figured I might ask. I bought my boat used in August and towed it a very short distance home without plates. (I know, bad bad). Anyhow know that I've finished rewiring the trailer, replacing tie downs, packing the bearings, mounting a jack and a spare tire, I need to get some plates on it. I don't have a title or anything, so I don't know what to do.

What do I need to do? A friend is telling me that I just need to fill out a form and provide a weigh slip. Is he correct?

Actually the only paper work that I have is the title for the boat.

That's right. Go to your nearest BMV and the'll give you the weigh slip and tell you where the nearest place is to have it weighed. That sounds easy but keep in mind you're dealing with the Ohio BMV so be prepared with lots of patience.

Just a warning but some places won't do boat registrations so you may have to drive to yet another place.
