I think the optimal pattern may depend on whether the extra block on the bottom is oriented perpendicular or parallel to the other blocks. I think the older sets have the extra block perpendicular and the newer sets have the extra block parallel. (My friend and I both had A cats with Harken 8:1 sheets, but his set had a perpendicular arrangement and mine had a parallel arrangement. I remember we had to reeve them differently.)

I have just done this with my new Blade and you're right the newer blocks have the parallel setup - I had all these pictures above and the only one that works properly in that setup seems to be the Harken picture - I eventually figured it out

My 1997 Mystere 6.0 has an 8:1 Harken with a quad block both top and bottom. No extra block on the side. Stays in perfect alignment all the time. Don't understand why they don't sell this arrangement to the general public. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
