Sea Chest Marine, New Orleans, reopens - 07/17/08 12:53 PM
Sea Chest just reopened, and I was there the other day. For those of you who'd been around for some time, this is the shop where Ashley Vandermulen used to work, they were a Hobie dealership amongst other things.
Sea Chest literally have buckets of Harken, Ronstan, Lewmar, etc. hardware, which had drowned in the storm, for sale. For pennies on the dollar.
I bought what must have been 2-3 hundred dollars' worth of blocks etc. for $35.
After a bit of a freshwater soak to get out the silt, they're just fine. It is marine hardware, after all.
Also there:
Showroom demo model Hobie 16, 1992, sold as is. Looks in good shape if dirty. I didn't see the sails, but the fella said they were 'stored upstairs' which means they may be in excellent condition. If the hardware prices are any indication, this boat will be a HELLUVA deal.
If y'all want to do some good in the world, help out Katrina victims, give 'em a call or go visit...
