mast rake rigging on hc16

i'm assembling the mast raking system on a hobie 16, does anyone know how much is the workload of the cheek block at the mast base? i was thinking of using a harken bullet cheek block code h092. Even if i noticed than some hc16 use an unknown cheek, must be hobie cat made.

The standard block is a Ronstan item but the Harken 092 works fine and is class legal.

You should be able to get either one at West or any decent rigger.

Like Dave says, you probably need to replace it every 20 or so years. At 25 it will be a goner!

No problems with load (4:1 or 3:1 on the jib halyard), any cheek block will do.

I am not understanding. The photo shown does not depict a reduction unit with any gain in purchase, it just tracks to make the effort go with body weight.
So, this is nothing to do with mast rake, just jib tension or is the mast loose like on a Windrush 14 and the mast can be bent forward by putting pressure on the bridle ring but in the case the jib pulley?

The 3:1 purchase is at the head of the sail, therefore the tension on the line shown in the photo is 1/3 of the tension on the jib.



No, this has everything to do with mast rake. On a Hobie 16, the wire sewn into the jib luff is the forestay when the jib is hoisted. The amount of jib halyard tension controls the amount of mast rake.
