Hollow wood foils are beautiful! Marstrøm really had something good there!

Who are sailing the classic in the pics above. Simon and Mitch?

Would that be a Landenberger or Piggot kite John is running there?

Re: Tornado rigs? - 09/19/08 01:54 PM

It's a Landy approx 4 seasons old. The main is also a Landy and probably the same age = not the big head which he is currently producing.

I must confess to having a couple of Strongbows tonight but now when I look at this photo 118 118 springs to mind. (it's a UK joke regarding a TV commercial)

For those of you who haven't fallen asleep yet here's a photo of the 2008 ex-Olympic Tornado mainsheet system. Maybe in years to come we'll all be using cascade systems within the boom!

Do you have a hi res image of the first of the Tornado wave jumpers?
That is just a wonderful thing.

Interesting picture. Any insight on the purchase inside the boom? I'm guessing the dyneema line is routed around a block on the front of the boom and the yellow line pulls its end backward via a floating block?

Assuming something simple like this, 8/1 would be the purchase at the block at the end of the boom, but as the line is coming back to the beam it's adding another length to pull: 9/1?

Re: Tornado rigs? - 09/20/08 10:41 PM

I can't be positive but it's probably between 12-15 to 1, I think the beauty of this internal cascade system is the extra purchase for less residual sheet and also the cost.
How it actually works has been explained to me but unfortunately I was at the bar at the time so now I haven't a clue <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Re: Tornado rigs? - 09/22/08 08:18 AM

Probably find it is actually 9:1 or 10:1. But much reduced windage at the rear of the boat
