Hurricane Ike, who is back?

How did everyone make out. We had some roof damage and lost the fence but power came back Sunday and internet was restored this evening. We also have a pile of debris that is about 100x30x6 ft in the front yard and the tops of 2 big trees are still stuck up in the trees. We started dragging debris about noon Saturday and finished Thursday evening.

All the boats came through ok except for a couple dings on the A where a fence hit it and the trailerable cover on the Tornado was ripped up. I seem to remember something about do not exceed 70 mph in the instructions. I guess they are not kidding.

I know the damage pales in comparison with the coastal areas, but Columbus Ohio got hit pretty hard! No kidding... 84 of the 88 Ohio counties had winds in excess of 75 mph. The highest sustained wind in recorded history. Several million without power initially. Still around 70,000 without power today in central Ohio alone. Just about every homeowner experienced some tree damage. I had to use a chainsaw just to get to my house door. My debris pile is about 70x20.

We got 6" of sewage and water in the house where the storm surge came up the bayou. 95% of the sheet rock is hacked out at a 1 foot level and we have been spraying with bleach solution and drying out. We got power back Friday evening - up till then the RV generator was taking care of business.

I put the Tiger into our storage unit (a fully enclosed metal shed) and it is fine - we have it in the back yard now and the storage is full of wet furniture and garage contents.

Tommy Granger lost a couple of trees and had 3 ft of water in his shop and 6" in the house. The 18HT project boat survived OK though.

We tied the TCDYC Hobie skiff off on its trailer between two trees in my yard. It bobbed around a bit but looks unscathed.

Lee's new palapa hut down by the bayou shrugged off Ike and defied the naysayers - it is still standing. Lee and Jill got about the same amount of water in their house as Tommy and I.

The dike has road damage and all the buildings on it are just stumps. The city announced it was closed until further notice this morning. Cat Alley was wiped out. The east beach pavillion where we held the NAF18 North Americans looks like it is still there on the NOAA aerial pictures, but I expect it is badly damaged and the park will be closed for some time.

Looks like we will have to find some alternative launch sites for a while. I expect Galveston bay has some interesting new submerged hazards...

Chris it appears we are one of the first people back to something approuching normal. Many of the sailors have no power, or internet, or have not been able to come home, or are just too overwhelmed to care.

Never left...I was very luck that all my trees avoided the house. Our shop still doesnt have power so i have taken some of my time off to rig my spinnaker! Everything is back to normal around here

We had nearly zero damage in Sugar Land, just downed fence and missing shingles. Yo Baby! was safely nestled behind the garage.

Cat Alley is totally gone! It's now situated between the 1st and 2nd sandbar... I have attached a picture of the 1 piling remaining and parts of the kitchen cabinets.

Well, we got our office in the Galleria area open the middle of last week and have been dealing with fans and dehumidifyers ever since. We lost half the roof and 9 windows. I can see all around the area from my office (12th floor) and there are multiple roofs being repaired and replaced all over. The traffic lights are still off and on, the tolls have been lifted on the tollways to help people get around, there are no hotel rooms to be had (and that is a lot of hotel rooms in Houston) due to all the influx of personnel to work on getting things back to normal. The traffic is horrible - probably due to traffic lights being out, more people coming into town and the 60,000 or so that were displaced from Galveston. I have power, many are still without. Gas is readily available again. All in all, no complaints from me. I have been living on the Gulfcoast somewhere all my life. This makes hurricane number 15 that I've been through. I know the drill, you learn to live with them. Houston is up and running again. Let the oil and gas flow....
