New F16 rating

New F16 rating - 10/08/08 02:04 AM

not sure if it was mentioned but the F16 rating has had a mid year change down to 63.0. This is probably a more reasonable rating.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/08/08 06:08 AM

proof that the F16 is fast!

Re: New F16 rating - 10/08/08 09:14 AM

what rating system would that be???? link?

Re: New F16 rating - 10/08/08 10:01 AM

Dazz,
The discussion is around the Portsmouth System which is used in the US Portsmouth Rating System
should give you the numbers. But this is not a system I have seen used outside the US.
Just like VYC is not used outside Australia.

Phill

When did this take effect?

63 is getting there, 59.3 looks good to me

Wonder how many blades will be for sale now that the little rating beater is not so much.

No one I know bought into the F16 concept because of the rating. My guess would very few, if any. Are you pissy b/c little boats can be sailed as fast your beast?

Exactly!!!

Actually @#%$$#@^!^!! faster, but that involves seasick crew. That is right seasick. I felt like dropping him at the gate mark and picking him up five races later.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/09/08 01:32 PM

Chris.

We kept checking the elapsed times this year against the F-18 number and it didn't change the results much if any. Kieth correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe if you guys would travel a little you could learn some new tricks. Of course I can say that now that my kids are grown and I got rid of their mother, legally mind you.

I left a tear bucket by your boat.

Said with big smile. Ed

In our area it makes a difference.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/09/08 02:26 PM

17 yrs old, grew up sailing in the med, 225#s and got seasick on beachcat in our little bay. He gets ribbing daily as you can imagine.:)

Ahhh . . . re run the Race to Oxford if you will.

Overall you two with certainty deserve the Tuesday night planks coming your way. You both are beating "Faster" boats boat-for-boat. AND its really fun to watch you guys gybe or hoist or try to figure out where the gate is hehehehe.....

I hope there is some beer in that bucket!

Re: New F16 rating - 10/09/08 03:22 PM

Chris. I don't think this year's Oxford race is worth re-running as far as getting some boat performance info out of it. The conditions were lousy for everybody.

Marc S reworked the Hammond Race elpsed time at 63 and John still won. I can't find the email but I'm pretty sure it went that way. That one had a pretty good mix of uphill and downhill. That particular breeze was just right for John to be able to wildthing the Blade and roll some boats. But he was nice about it.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/09/08 03:28 PM

no doubt on both accounts. Sittin in the middle of that little tramp, hull up, going faster and lower than us with a very polite smile. At least he didn't wave as he went by.

hmmmm . . . 60.0 61.5 60.2 59.5 59.5

two words.... Lake Eustis. How do you make those results right? Give Team Mc its own rating?

Area D-South results will be interesting.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/09/08 04:25 PM

Area D-South is ALWAYS interesting and this year will be no
exception.

Alter Cup, nothing but the truth.

Is that because you are too cheap to buy it from the manufacturer ? Come'on, we know you want one. You'll no longer have to worry about crew...but then there would be not excuses either (LOL).

Enough ribbing....Let's give Ed, John, and Constantine credit. They are excellent sailors that have mastered the F-16 for the conditions that we see in our part of the Chesapeake; especially Tuesday evenings where the conditions are not the N20's fortay. If it was not for their results at WRCRA and efforts (also Mark's); we probably would not have seen a mid-year rating adjustment nor down to a 63. Frankly, there will always be an issue until we all sail the same cat.

BTW, I'm sending some cheese to go with the WHINE in Ed's bucket. hehe.

This is Sound Boatworks, from whom I just bought one of the same:

It is just a Gill RegattaMaster. Nothing fancy... chrono, timer, alarms and a internal compass (which is somewhat
accurate). It has a fairly large face and beeps a lot in timer/start mode.

You can tell from that pic that there was not much wind, yet we were double trapped with 360+ pounds on the boat. It is so easy to power up that it is ridiculous.....

Re: New F16 rating - 10/10/08 02:07 PM

The Ronstan is made by Optimum Time and if you don't mind yellow, you can find it cheaper than the Ronstan. Love the 5,4,1,0 sequence and synch button is a must.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/10/08 03:06 PM

Now it's time to work on the NF17 rating....66.7? That boat is not the same as it was a few years ago (i.e. new mast, many generations of sails - main and spi, tapered dagger boards, and who know which generation of rudders).

Re: New F16 rating - 10/10/08 05:01 PM

I am so glad someone else said that... cause I sure wanted to!
I'll place $$ on the N17 rating not changing for a long time.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/10/08 05:04 PM

I agree. But it seems as though there are not many F17s that do any amount of open class racing. The F17s in Michigan usually have enough so they have a class.... but where else?

Re: New F16 rating - 10/10/08 06:09 PM

But it is Bob Curry that is making the F17 fly. He could make a Opti look fast LOL

Not according to this MI poster about his AC qualifier -- unless Bob can qualify there too.

Quote
Ours is silly anyway, since the F17 has such a soft rating, it's almost impossible for another class to win. (F17 has won the Area E Alter Cup for as long as I can remember.) Even Matt Struble couldn't win it last year on an F18.

Re: New F16 rating - 10/10/08 11:24 PM

I personally saw Matt & Gina McDonald on their F-16 run away from the other well-sailed spin boats (F18, F20) in all directions at Lake Eustis last weekend in nice air. Very impressive speed to get to C-mark WAY ahead of them.... Apparently dialed and ready for Alter Cup again. Same start but beat them all. I haven't seen the results for numbers.
