Don't miss the photo gallery with the BOR90 flying her main hull off San Diego. As we have previously reported the BOR90 is being reported at reaching 33 knots of boatspeed in just 12 knots of wind speed. Seeing these images of the BOR90 at these speeds brings home the sheer size of this sailing machine.

I'd bet they only need a Code Zero as the apparent is always forward:

yeah, I meant a code zero. everything on that boat needs to be flat.

has Alingi come up with anything yet... but I am not sure of the legal status right now.

everything is still in a holding pattern waiting for the GGYC appeal to be heard. That's expected to take place sometime in January '09.

That centerboard in the main hull sure kicks up a lot of spray. I wonder if they do that intentionally to conceal something?

Re: WOW! 33k in 12k true! - 11/26/08 01:08 AM

I was thinking the same thing, but why don't they just pull it all the way up if they are going to sail it on one hull?

The board in the main hull is the one that gives the sidways resistance.

Note- she is still labeled "Keel-yacht". F$%&*(*&^ lawyers will take over everything if possible....

I really think that GGYC really bopped the boinker on that snafu. It was wording left in from a previously copied challenge. I think it's still a marginal definition discrepancy as catamarans DO have keels but it doesn't really fit the traditional definition.

Regardless, I still think they're doing the lawsuit for all the right reasons...hopefully January will see some resolution (or late Feb. / early March before a ruling).

I take that January comment back. Apparently we could hear something in December out of the court.

I know that Alinghi is working on a catamaran not a tri , that's what i heard and it looks that Oracle is also doing something with a catamaran besides the tri.

I had not heard the rumor the BMWO was also working on a cat.

A 90 x 90 cat would not be as stiff as the Tri. Big call if true.

As far as the rumours go, there is been said that they are both working on a 60 ft cat. We will see what will be thru.

A 60 foot cat? Why? The box drawn by the challenge is 90 x 90.

Just because the box is 90 by 90 doesn't mean you can't build to less than that. Right?

Sailrocket has hit 45 in 22 knots breeze. Very cool looking making a pass. One tack only machine but I love the concept of righting moment always matching the sail forces.

Sure....but isn't a 30' cat faster than a 20' cat?

One wonders if she would hold together for a Sydney to Hobart run.

About 1:05 into the video, it looks like the rig is canted to weather. Does this have a canting rig?

Yes! If you look closely, you can see that they have very long and thin hydraulic cylinders between the end of the shrouds and the attachment point on the decks. The skipper has foot pedals to control the hydraulics to cant the rig between tacks.
