Shipping Boats - 02/21/09 03:43 PM

Hey guys,
has anyone had any experience of shipping boats between different countries? i've got a Taipan in australia, and am wondering about having it shipped over to italy so that i can use it. i need to know if anyone would have a clue how much this would cost, and whether a removals company could be trusted to pack it well enough for such a journey, considering that i will not be in australia to supervise this. thanks for any help,
Alex

I live on one side of what is accepted as one of the most expensive, per mile, ferry crossings in the world - Ireland / UK, so maybe I am not the best one to comment on this. But, I would have to say: Buy a cat in Italy grin. If you are not going back to Oz any time soon, sell the Tiapan cry

Things to think about
-port to port costs are OK, but road transport is really expensive
- you pay for volume, so cheaper if boat can be dismantled, packed by you or your agent and shipped within a shared container
- costs will be prohibitive if you have to ship it by itself, or on a trailer
-best option is to see if you can share a container with a shipment of boats - world championships, or a manufacturers shipment
-probably not worth it otherwise

Bingo! Find a manufacturer that's sending boats over there.
