Fiberglass and plexiglass

I am doing dagger board repairs on my 18 and was wanting to use plexiglass to hold the shape on one side. Will the glass stick to the plexiglass? The reason I ask is because I used tupaware from momma's kitchen to mix the stuff up and does not stick to that.

Use some mold release on it and it should probably work.

I hope your mamma does not know you are using her tupperware. My wife would have me by my man parts if I used her tupperware. I'd be living in the shed full time.

The answer mainly is no the question is do you want it to stick to the plexiglass? If not mold wax is best, car wax works also. If you are using poly resins less chance of sticking, epoxy better chance. Make sure the plexiglass is clean, waxed, and buffed several times.

If you plan on sanding it all you can use wax paper over the plex and if poly you can add some special resin wax when you mix it up. That will make it easier to sand and tack free when the lay-up dries.

If you are doing the edge of a dagger board I've used duct tape to make a temp mold. I've used the silver side of duct tape against the backside of where I wanted to make the repair just slightly larger then the repair area. Then taped it place with another strip of duct tape larger to hold it in place sticky side to sticky side. I've waxed the silver side before but usually it just pulls off and the fiberglass does not stick to it. If it does a little paint thinner or similar will loosen it.

Plexiglass is resistant to sticking to the composites but is not as good as UHMW. Wax paper will definitely do the trick to separate any hard surface from the repair area.

I do like the tape method just incase it does stick I'd rather have tape to deal with and not something like plex.

i built a 22 foot cat, in my back yard, using that method. hard chine boat (paper tiger blown up) single 22 oz tri ax skin, then toilet paper tubes cut in half with a 6 inch wide ply of the 22 over top. light fast boat. bit underpowered.
