Come out and sail on the 4th - 06/29/02 09:36 PM

IRCA (Indian River Catamaran Assoc) will be sailing at our launch sight on the 4th. For those of you that have never sailed with us, we have our own launch area at the Sebastian Inlet about 15 miles north of Vero Beach on the east coast of central Florida. Through long term lobbying of the local park service we have about 100' of nice launch area reserved just for cats on the channel of the inlet. On the inside of the inlet we have a sailing area roughly the size of blackwater sound and for those who crave the wave you can sail out the inlet (please keep in mind this is a VERY trecherous inlet when the tides and waves don't mesh....I suggest sailing inside unless you are really up for it). We have P-19MXs, I-17s N-6.0s etc coming out. I hope to be there on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday weather willing. The city of Sebastian has a fireworks display which are easily viewed from our launch area if you wish to stick around for the BBQ and party. They have camping at the park but I kind of doubt there are spaces left at this point (call). There are plenty of hotels in Vero and I would be happy to try to help you arrange accomadations. My email is jamesfalardeau@msn.com and home phone is 772-231-4386.

Cool. I wish this beach area was set aside back when I lived in Vero.

How long ago did you live in Vero? We (we being Chris Runge) also were involved in the planning of the renovation of Round Island Park about 7 miles south of Vero and secured a way to launch onto a great beach. It does require backing you trailer to the short posts and sliding the boat onto the wheels over the 2' posts...it is really easier than it sounds. This is a great sailing beach altough other than the summer months the Sebastian Inlet area gets more use. These new launch oppotunities really helped in my decision to return to cat sailing after a multi year stint in the monohull.

I lived there for almost four years until I moved back to Denver three or four years ago. Even though I lived in Vero, I kept my H17 with a friend in Melbourne and sailed from a tiny beach off the Eau Gallie causeway.
