NOTICE OF RACE
ORGANIZING AUTHORITY: The Organizing Authority for this event is the Ocean Springs Yacht Club, Ocean
Springs, Mississippi located at 100 Front Beach, Ocean Springs (P.O. Box 821, Ocean Springs, MS 39566).
RULES: The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS),
the prescriptions of US SAILING, pertinent Class/Fleet Rules, and this Notice of Race, except as any of these
are altered by the Sailing Instructions or by the Race Officials and posted in a timely manner at the Ocean
Springs Yacht Club.
ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY: This regatta is open to all multihull boats 16’ or larger. Eligible boats may be entered
by completing an entry form and submitting it with entry fee to Ocean Springs Yacht Club, P.O. Box 821,
Ocean Springs, MS 39566. Early registration (postmarked on or before June 28, 2009) is $60.00 for double
handed (or greater), $50.00 Single handed. Late registration (after June 29, 2009) will be an additional $10.00.
OSYC Club members, 10% discount on entry fee.
EXPECTED CLASSES: The number of classes will be determined by the type and quantity of boats
registered. In the race directors’ discretion, a separate class may be assigned for any 5 competitors of the
same class. At a minimum 3 classes will be assigned. Hobie 16, Open Non-Spin and Open Spin.

Friday, July 3, 2009 Registration (1600 to 1900)
Saturday, July 4, 2009 Late Registration (0800 to 0900)
Saturday, July 4 Skipper’s Meeting under the building (0930)
Saturday July 4 Race 1 to Horn Island (1030ish)
Saturday July 4 Lunch on the island (1200 to 1330ish)
Saturday July 4 Race 2 from Ship Island (1345ish)
Saturday July 4 Dinner in the club dining room (1700)
Saturday July 4 Raffle and giveaway (immediately following dinner)
Sunday, July 5 Race 3 around Deer Island (1030ish)
Sunday, July 5 Award Ceremonies in the club dining room (1430ish)
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: The sailing instructions will be available during Check-In and at the
Competitors’ Meeting; however they can be obtained on line along with the registration form at:
www.osyc.com
COURSES: The courses will be as described in the Sailing Instructions. But typically involve 3 Races (Race 1
(Saturday) from OSYC to Horn Island, Race 2 (Saturday) from Horn Island to OSYC and Race 3 (Sunday)
“around Deer Island” course.
SCORING: Low score system with no throw-outs. Competitors will be ranked by class
or according to the most recent Portsmouth Rating System, as applicable. No wind adjustments will be made.
Competitors are responsible for the accurate reporting of their ratings with adjustments.
PENALTIES: No starting penalty flags will be used. On the water fouls require corrective actions by the
offending sailor. If you foul, you are required to perform a 360 (one tack, one jibe) as soon as practical. All
protests must be made pursuant to the provisions of the R.R.S. (2009-2012) within 30 minutes of the
committee boat coming ashore.
Protest Committee: The protest committee shall be composed of the OSYC Vice Commodore, OSYC Fleet
Captain, OSYC Sail Director and the Principal Race Official or their substitutes as determined by the race
director.
PRIZES: Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in each class, plus an overall Winner. A
“Turtle” award will be presented recognizing the team that has the most trouble during the races. A perpetual
trophy has been debuted this year which chronicles the fastest adjusted time around Deer Island (race three).
LODGING: There are a numerous hotels, casinos and motels in the immediate area. Camping will be permitted
on the south side of the pool area and pergola. Shower facilities are available on the premises. The club has
also made arrangements with the Indian Head Station Hotel 500 Bienville Blvd (two tenths of a mile from the
club) for sailor lodging and possible offsite trailer parking. Contact Melanie (228) 282-3190 and mention the
OSYC Regatta to obtain the best pricing. Reserve early because this is a Holiday weekend!

Last call for early registration! Deadline to save $10.00 on the July 4-5 Horn Island Hop registration is tommorow! The distance racing is always great. This year we have a kick butt raffle as well including a grand prize two night stay at the Emerald Grande Resort in Destin, Florida including a fishing trip or a round of golf. And if you reply now, I'll throw in some beautiful fireworks for the 4th of July wink I hope that you can make it.
