Great Texas 300 Started - 06/17/09 07:36 PM

Meant to post this earlier. The race started today at 11am Eastern. TopoFusion is covering it but a lot of the units are not transmitting or quit transmitting.

Quote
The biggest surprise of the day was the arrival of John Tomko and Ian Billings of Team RuffRider.net. Tiffany said she was sitting at home with her legs crossed and her knees together until the race was over!

Tell Tiffany it's too late for that tactic. She should have thought of that 9 months ago. laugh

Team Royal Orange had a good day along with the rest of the 20's.

What happened to Ruff Rider? What were they sailing? Is everyone ok?

They were on a borrowed Infusion - an hour or so into the race they "broke the mast." I don't have any details - I got it second-hand from someone that talked with Tomko on his drive home today. John and Ian were reported to be okay. The Official Blog description sounds like a failed shroud to me - the mast and sail were separated from the boat and were recovered some time after the crew made it ashore, and the ground crew found beach access to ease recovery.

Glad everyone was ok. Sorry to hear about the boat.

The mast buckled between the spreader and hound and was cut away from the boat. John went home where he could be in attendance at the birth of his son Saturday, and Ian followed the race the rest of the week.
