ACL tears are common and can be repaired so you're knee is stronger than the original. If you're serious go Vail and have Steadman clinic do it. They're the benchmark for athletes with orthopedic injuries. You'll be dancin' in no time. Now rotator cuffs, they are a bitch. Long, slow recovery and only 90% after 3 years. The warranty is over, I guess.

Once your tear and ACL, no it will never be the same, nor will it be stronger than the original. We have seen cases where these procedures are failing 3 to 5 years after surgery. . We can replace with one from a cadaver, use part of your patella tendon (endoscopic reconstruction) which is the common method, or new procedure that requires weave mesh around the tear. But again it will never be the same.
But not all is lost. There are some cases where some have made it through life being ACL Deficient - Walter Payton being one and the best example on how get along.
Once cleared by your MD get the PT going and never stop. Get the "quades and hams" built up to to take the pressure and compensate for the damaged ligament. That is how you're going to make it stronger than before.
