Canandaigua Tornado - Dead Sharks

Posted By: mbounds

Canandaigua Tornado - Dead Sharks - 08/30/09 10:50 AM

F1 tornado went through Canandaigua (New York) YC yesterday, pretty much wiping out the Shark fleet.

Their Open Catamaran Regatta is in 2 weeks (maybe). It would be very cool if people could show their support by attending.

Damage pictures are here.

Ugly, ugly, ugly.

Oh no!
How many sharks were lost? In my view those cold moulded wooden relics are unreplaceable so this was a sad sight.

How sad, those look like the boats at Tradewinds every year.

Omigosh, that is HORRIBLE. Most of those boats were just here at Put-in-Bay for their 47th National Championships. Here is the link to our story and photos of that event: http://www.catsailor.com/Stories_Temp/SharkNtls09.htm

We are so sad! Your Yacht Club has always been a great host to us during your September Open Regatta. I must have raced there a minimum of twelve years (never successfully, but always a blast with the sixty-five boat start).

We'll try and take a ride up.

Wyatt from Fleet 119.

Word is about 10 to 12 boats are out of commission.

Some of these boats are only a few years old. There's a builder (John Rogers) in Canandaigua who makes one or two every year. Cold-molded Western Red Cedar WEST System.

Looks like John Rogers is going to have a very busy winter. I know the Shark sailors are not going to give up on their fleet.
