Wave Atlantic Coast Championship - 09/25/09 10:37 PM

I'm not being a very good reporter for this, but from what I have heard, it is VERY windy there at Duck, NC on the Outer Banks. This morning it was blowing 25, and they didn't know whether they were going back out after lunch. But they did, and it was blowing 28 and gusting to 37.

What else but Waves would be out in that?

I don't know much else except that Rick was dismasted this afternoon when his forestay broke. Everyone seems to be in good spirits and having a great time.

The Ohio contingent chipped in to rent a big house to stay in a mile from the regatta site.

Good fun today! 1 de-masting per race and I was busy playing rescue on a waverunner most of the day. Temps dropped fast and I have never seen a group of racers scatter faster after the last race. Similar conditions for tomorrow and hopefully a bit less gusty. We had a sustained 22-26 knots for most of the day!
Great turnout with 15 boats today and a few more tomorrow. Patrick Green takes 3 bullets the first day for the early lead. In these conditions, anything can happen from here.

Saturday preliminary report: They got in six races today, still in wind in the 20's, until it died down late to about 15. Everybody is exhausted (understandably so), and they are all packing up and leaving Sunday, because weather report is not good.

I'll wait for Jon to post more up-to-date info.
