Space Coast Activity today! - 10/27/09 02:31 PM

Wind looks great for sailing! 22 knots! Not great for launching Ares! Launch been pushed back to 2:50PM EST.

Ares launch was just scrubbed for today due to weather. Red on launch pad winds (22 kts) and red on area electrification (thunderstorms).

As it is a test and not meeting up with anyone, they were not going to launch today unless it was absolutely perfect.

Just got back in from a sail -- It was perfect for that. 18-24 . Even though they scrubed it, they were still enforcing the exclusion zone on the North Banana River.

There was one boat that motored right through the launch area for a bit this morning, but it was pretty cloudy then. Around 11am-ish there was a opening of blue sky that was looking good, but it disappeared.

One cool thing, the weather plane flew around the launch area and left an almost perfect vapor trail circle.

Ok, I was watching nasa tv, how does a ship just sail into the security zone? No one was watching?

Undecided,

Thanks for posting that link. I'm a teacher and we had state testing today. I just happened to check this site to maintain some sort of sanity, as I periodically do most days, and stumbled across your post. My fifth graders got to watch it live after they took the test. They really enjoyed it. I didn't know you could watch the launches like that. I'll have to share that site with my school.

Thanks
