Came across this video from a foiling cat racing at Phuket at the moment, very nice looking machine though...

I don't really see it foiling, just flying one hull at a time.

Not sure if it will foil both hulls. But more aid in the windward hull in rising earlier out of the water, and help the leeward not dig in as much.

But it broke down during the Kings Cup I believe

Somebody was asking about it at Sailing Anarchy too...it now has bowsprit on both hulls for downwind sail, and the center pod for the foils slides back and forth to whichever is the lee side. Don't think he's got it fully worked out yet...but there was some new video of it moving past a keelboat w/ spin pretty fast...

I didn't see any foils on the outer hulls.

Hey Tony!

Any sign of anything foiling off the beach at Scheiveningen yet?

There aren't any foils on the hulls, that's kind of the point of the design. The main foil and the rudder are a unit that slides from side to side...

How does a bi-plane cat behave anyway, with regard to flying a hull etc?

The world has gone foiling mad, even a foiling Optimist now...

What would you call that? A "Flopti"?

You have got to love the flopti. What a great story of innovation (Get way outside the box!). Who'd of thought?

Umm...After looking at the picture again. It seems to me, she is trying to get as far outside the box as she can. Not the point so much as the effort someone put into doing this?

I have thought about making a foiling centerboard with an integrated case which can be retrofit to any boat having a Daggerboard or Centerboard well. Maybe we can all foil anything we want, Laser, Laser II, Optis, Sunfish, Catamarans.

Later,
Dan

Tick the Opti's off the list of to do's. See http://foilingboatadventures.blogspot.com/2009/12/foiling-oppie.html
