Great Shark Sailor Passes on

Great Shark Sailor Passes on - 12/17/09 06:51 PM

Just got this message from Sue Bennet:

I have sad news to report today. Al Perrin died peacefully in his sleep last night, surrounded by his family. We will miss this dear man. Al, a true seat-of-the-pants sailor will be remembered for his contributions to catamaran sailing, especially the Shark; the care and feeding of every Volkswagon in western NY; his sailing photography; but mostly I'll remember Al for his knack of being able to work his way around a good story. Al's story telling abilities would almost always take flagrant character flaws and ultimately turn them into moments of virtuous brilliance. I never left a meeting with Al that I didn't have a smile on my face!
Sail away in peace, Al!

Al and I tied for the Shark Nationals in Sandusky one year. He was a great sailor and great friend.
When we would go to the Shark Midwinters in Miami he would show up at the parties with all sorts of videos.., all so very entertaining.
God, I am going miss that guy,
Rick

I am fortunate to have Al Perrin's boat- Shark 148. We rebuilt it a few years back. He was thrilled to see it sailing again. He may have passed, but he will be remembered each time we go sailing.
