This is ALMOST as good as the one of JW and Jake from a few years back... there must be something in the water (besides dead fish) during Tradewinds

You can take a Lake sailor out of the lake, but you can't take the Lake out of a Lake sailor.

somebody pay that photographer. Up the regatta entry fee another $5 next year, and have a photographer like this post photos up on this site or SA, etc.

People like to see pictures of themselves, even when their boat is sideways.

Even better, the awards can be nice framed photos of their team in action, with a little nameplate..

Do you have any idea how hard it would be for a pro photographer that takes over 2,000 pictures at a regatta to try to find specific photos of a specific boat or team and get them printed in time for trophies on the last day? IMPOSSIBLE! Most closeups do not show sail numbers or anything to identify.

We were so fortunate that Cindy was there, thanks to Kirk Newkirk for persuading her to come.

The way to get professional photographers like Cindy to continue photographing these regattas is to purchase a picture of your boat in action.

Or bump the regatta fees up and pay a photographer up front for taking pictures which you can post... They can't do this for free all the time....

I do see your point regarding picture trophies...

Mary,
We did just that several times at the Gaulden Reed Summer Sizzler. We took pictures of each boat at the A mark on the first day. Took the film to CVS that night and had the pictures the next morning. Sort the Pics by class and sail number so they are easy to find once the scoring has been done. Just insert the pics into plastic frames with place stickers. The rest of the pictures we put out for the sailors to keep. Low cost and everyone had a great memory.

+2
Do whatever it takes to get someone on the water with a camera. I am totally convinced that getting pictures and stories out there in the mainstream is THE way to grow our sport. Every event should think about media, no matter how ghetto. I kind of left Jdub in a lurch at the F18s in LB a few months back. I was supposed to work the A mark, but felt it was more important to get the word out.
