Had a hard time telling the C2 and Viper apart in the 2nd video., very nicely put together.

(A shame they didn't record it in HD though)

C2 F18 has the black daggerboards

Viper F16 has the white daggerboards

Both contain carbon cloth btw, they just have a different colour gelcoat layer I believe.

Other then that only the shape of the bow and the sail markings differentiate between both designs.

Very nice video's; I especially love the side by side parts; exactly as the we envisioned at the founding of the F16 class.

Very well done.

Not exactly as envisioned, that is a 125 kilo f16 matching it with a f18. the founders screwed the pooch on that one... it is such a shame because f16 would be huge now.. alas.

2B Sailing is the European importer and Dutch and Belgium dealer for the C2 Formula 18, the Viper F16 catamarans and other high performance sailing products.

Multiple Olympians and sailing world champions Darren Bundock and Carolijn Brouwer are the forces behind the company.

That is great news as I wasn't too impressed by the party who handled this business before ! The EU market penetration was held back by it. They were like a highly skilled doctor with awful bedside manners. You couldn't fault them for any technical deficiencies but in the way of promotion (actually selling boats) they were noticeably less skilled.

Of course having the names of Bundock and Brouwer attached to the business is nothing short of a dream come true !

Be careful here Wouter... You have been warned by this party that character bashing is not acceptable... and in doing so you are now bashing their representation of my company.

http://www.notgoodenough.org/

you have no idea what bashing is until your company gets listed on not good enough. Big and small I have watched them all crumble!

To be fair I would have to side with Wouter on this one, If some one was poorly representing my company or had room for improvement I would want to know.

pool ol wouter.. lol

I'm not sure about the B&B represenation myself! It looks like they are pitching the F-18 as the "manly" boat and the F-16 as the "girly" boat... I still want one though! But it probably means you can scratch F-16 sales in Italy and France...

I can feel an OLYMPIC equipment nomination coming on....

Re: video - 03/05/10 12:21 PM

Seriously, you think the powers that be would choose two open classes as opposed to (SM)OD as Olympic? Wouldn't that be much too realistic for an Olympic committee?
If so it would be totally unprecedented AFAIK.
It would be really great, but I trust 'em as far as I can kick 'em, and I can almost feel my toes throbbing as I type...

Re: video - 03/05/10 01:43 PM

I too don't believe that ISAF/IOC wiould choose non-SMOD designs. However that doesn't exclude the C2 and the Viper as both could easily become SMOD. The precedent is there with the Hobie Tiger.

Re: video - 03/05/10 01:50 PM

No one wants us, particularly the IOC. Why don't we focus on improving the state of our art for and amongst ourselves?

As others have said; no chance of ISAF IOC choosing F18 for the boys and F16 for the girls; but they could; as John states choose SMODs derived from these rules.

Re: video - 03/05/10 08:29 PM

I was wondering this during the bobsled competition... are all the bobsleds being used SMOD?

No way, every design is closely guarded since a win or lose can depend on a hundredths of a second.
Posted By: ThunderMuffin

Re: video - 03/05/10 08:35 PM

well how can they get away with having different bobsleds and we can't have SLIGHTLY different boats?

Re: video - 03/05/10 08:37 PM

Not single manufacturer, it looks like you have to get the runners from the same stock though.

US sleds are built by Geoff Bodine's NASCAR group:

NBC's site talks abt min and max weight adn the origin of th runners:

Get this straight, WE DON'T WANT formulas to go to the olympics. It would screw it up for the rest of us.

One Design it is and best for all.

The Viper certainly is not just a "girly" boat, I have been sailing it for the past 3 weeks and loving it. As stated on our website it is my boat of choice. But it is certainly the boat for the lighter crews that might struggle with the power of F18.

I think the answer to that is clear.

When the cat scene has a viable program that starts at the youth level and runs smoothly all the way up to the big boy classes. Such a program will allow the cat scene to build up volume and power/influence and then it is just a matter of "pressure and time"

Sort of like the line Laser radial, laser-1, 29-er to 49-er

For cats I'm thinking : Pacer Cat ( F12 ) to F16 to either F18 or A-cat and onto any olympic catamaran.

Re: video - 03/07/10 02:14 PM

People push the kinds of activities they like. Cat fanciers are not sufficiently active in USS or IOC; indeed we seem to be composed of non joiners. Imo, the Alter Cup qualifiers should be sell out regattas, instead they are poorly attended for whatever reason.

There just aren't enough activists to make your progression work.

No cats for the Olympics because there aren't enough cat fanciers interested.

This is due to a vicious circle: no adult cat fanciers because there are no kids sailing cats because there is no cat class for kids because there are not enough cat fanciers...
Support a cat for kids!

Re: video - 03/07/10 09:20 PM

Umm. . . I think this started with surfer types. Older adolescents and young adults. I'm all for including kids, but I really think they need to show some initiative. No one has to coax them to skate board or do the other things that are all the rage.

For myself, I'll be pushing my class association and Alter Cup. If kids want to join in, that's fantastic.

Re: video - 03/07/10 11:22 PM

They have to be able to get on a skateboard to try it. In Aus we have a certain brand 16 which we never see in this town for state and national youth sailing. Us parents are welcome to buy this 16 for the kids and to go their regattas as long as we don't sail our other brands with them.
F16 could work in the Olympics if you had a different manufacturer for each games, drawn out of the hat to see what order and then there would be a supply of second hand ones coming through. That would be formula and smod. I would buy into that sort of arrangement.
