1990 Reg White tornado parts - 05/28/10 06:30 AM

Could you steer me to the best place to buy parts for the Reg White tornado please. I have looked at Murrays and Catsailor online and need so parts which I suspect are specific to this tornado. I am also looking for a parts diagram so I can name the parts correctly. The one part I am most interested in is the nylon nut for the tiller cross piece bolt. I think it is an M7 size and have not been able to find one. Also can you buy just the pin for the shackles anywhere. Thanks for your help.

M7? I thought only Vespa used those on their scooters. Go see your nearest Vespa dealer they will have a small stock of M7 nuts and rods. But good luck finding a stainless steel M7 nylon nuts! Are you sure it's a metric size, I suspect it's a UNC or UNF size really as M7 mostly disappeared in the 60s. See those guys for a good source of one-off bolts.

As for shackle pins, I don't think so. Just measure your shackle and buy a replacement with a captured pin smile

Thank you kindly! Never thought of Ebay, for some strange reason.

I used to work for Stagonset, the outfit linked above, and their website has been suspended since I left in July.

A number of us have since set up Westfield Fasteners with a very similar service, offering a range of stainless nuts and bolts.

I hope this is useful for you!

If you're looking for something in North America, McMaster Carr has stainless M7 nuts, but not in nylock.

I am still looking for the hardware to rig out a bare early model Marstom Carbon Fiber Tornado mast.

I am basing this on looking at my Aluminum Tornado mast and building up a Marstrom Carbon A Class mast. I have not looked at a Carbon Tornado mast, in detail.

The simplest way is to fax Marstrom, include your email address for a reply, and buy what they say that you need. It will be expensive.

I think you can use the diamond wire tensioning system from a Marstrom aluminum as long as it's SS. Keep aluminum away from the mast unless you know what you are doing. The electrolysis can be severe and damaging

The foot, the speaders and the attachments for the spreaders and diamond wires are unique. I built a foot for a A Class mast because I wanted a captive ball (NACRA Style) base. It was not easy. I tried to cheap out by using a laminated wood carbon plate. It failed. There is a lot of load on that base.

Good Luck
