What goggles were teams wearing during the gt300?

Which teams had which goggles? Did they fog? Do they have vents?

Team TCDYC use Barz goggles with vented eye gaskets. Minimal fogging for me - only in the morning on day 1 when it was really light and steamy. I just pull them down over my mouth and give them a lick and they stay clear.

On day 2 I set off without one of the gaskets in place (we found it in our gear bag that evening). It stung a bit when the salt water/sunscreen got into my eyes.

I've been a Barz user for 5 years and swear by them - particularly in full on reaching conditions when the spray is hitting you in the face like a fire hose.

100% with Chris here. Barz on distance races - particularly when its nasty out - are saviors. They are the best solution that I've tried - and I've tried a lot of them.

I tried the Barz last year but I could not make them fit my fat head. I guess Lee has the same problem smile Note Barz are of good quality and are adjustable (even the bridge can be replace with narrower and wider pieces). I just could not find a way to make them comfortable.

This year I tried the Gill racing goggles and found the quality to be a bit lacking. The nose bridge has come apart several times and the lenses won't stay in the frames. I'll be sending them back if possible.

Next year, I'll be wearing ski goggles like Lee. Functional, comfortable and little fogging even though they look kind of funny.

I wore a pair of Oakley Ski goggles that Dennis Banks gave me. Each night I coated them with RainX inside and out. Worked great. No fogging and very comfortable. Wide field of view. I have to be very selective since I have a fat head.

I tried the Barz years ago for the Worrells and they felt like they were trying to split my eye sockets.Try someones' on before you buy! I use some old Bolle watersport goggles that are excellent but I don't think they are available anymore. I also have some spex( I think) w/ the inter changeable lenses(they pin on) and water gets between the lens and the frame too often. With the the exception of heavy reaching/firehose conditions my Kaenons do fine.

Those Bolles were the best ever. Huge and ugly, but nothing better for keeping spray, salt and sunscreen away from my contacts.

Same thing for me - I couldn't ever make them comfortable, watertight, and not fog up. I could get any two of the three but not all three at the same time. Rick Bliss had some firm-foam framed goggles with a snap in lens and an elastic strap - I don't have any idea what the brand name is...but I've worn those in rough weather ever since I purchased them from him several years ago - they work great and don't fog.

Ski goggles do work pretty well too although I've had a couple come apart on me with the sailing abuse (maybe I was buying them too cheaply).

didn't Gath make a windsurfing helmet with an integral visor? I recall wearing a prototype once windsurfing the north corner of Andrew (wind 45+ kts) and it wasn't too awful until you had to itch your face (it was practically full face, like a motorcycle helmet)

Yeah - but I believe those are open on the bottom - and that's where the spray gets you. When on the trap, waves hit your feet and shoots up at your face there. Even tight fitting sunglasses are no match for that saltwater fire hose.

Jake,
Those are Spex, I believe. I've got a pair of them also but they don't hold a candle to the Bolle's

I used Barz goggles on the GT and had both fog and comfort issues. My crew had some ski type goggles from Magellan and he swears by them. I think I will borrow them sometime before I make a purchase decision.

Btw the Barz aren't supposed to be water-tight. If you're trying to make them water-tight then thats where your fog problem is coming from. The holes in the gaskets are there to get air in there.

I'm another one who's never been able to make the Barz work. I've had a trusty pair of Dirty Dogs that have done the job despite not having any seals, and I've used the Spex from Rick Bliss with good effect.
