Texas City Dike reopens

Texas City Dike reopens - 10/01/10 11:50 AM

I'm shocked not to find this here already, but the Texas City Dike reopened for business three weeks ago only a week shy of two years after the devastation of Hurricane Ike. The beaches are still being replenished with dredge material from the Houston and Texas City ship channels, but the boat ramps and catamaran beach are ready. There are some changes, such as no open campfires or "overnight camping" (apparently "overnight fishing" is ok) and the overhead lighting is not being replaced at this time. There is a modest user fee ($5/vehicle) on weekends in the summer only. Finally, the Texas City Dike Yacht Club has cancelled the Texas Two-Step regatta originally scheduled for Oct 16-17 in the Gulf off Galveston and replaced it on the docket with the (in)famous Redfish Reach, from the Dike to Redfish Island and back.
