NOR posted for 2011 Charlotte Harbor Regatta - 10/23/10 10:32 PM

With two exciting new multihull classes invited to participate and a worldwide wave of interest in Charlotte Harbor, the board of directors today released the Notice of Race for the Charlotte Harbor Regatta and the opening of our registration site for the Feb. 3-6, 2011 event.

Low fees, free slips, great hotel rates, generous sponsors and helpful volunteers make the Charlotte Harbor Regatta “the fun, affordable regatta.” The 2010 regatta drew 65 boats in eight classes, including nearly two dozen Hobie 16s and Waves. The multihull circle will double next year with the addition of the F18 and Weta trimaran classes. Also invited to participate are the exciting Viper 640, Flying Scot, Sunfish, Laser and S2 7.9 and Precision 15 classes. Other classes will be considered upon request.

The Charlotte Harbor Regatta will feature fast, competitive racing, exciting onshore activities and beautiful Southwest Florida weather. Classes will race on three circles, grouped according to boat compatibility and size. Buzz about the 2010 Charlotte Harbor Regatta and the great sailing conditions here resulted in the International Association for Disabled Sailing awarding its 2012 World Disabled Sailing Championships to Charlotte Harbor, which was recognized by SAIL magazine as “one of the top 10 greatest places to sail in the United States.”

An early registration discount and a $5 US Sailing member discount make the regatta even more affordable. Regatta rates on area hotels start at $65, and early birds can snag a two-bedroom suite right at our regatta host, Fishermen’s Village Resort & Marina, for only $140 a night, 30% off their regular rate. In addition, all nightly regatta dinners are included in the registration fee, with additional crew or family tickets only $40.

Virtually everything you need to know about the Charlotte Harbor Regatta is available on our website at www.charlotteharborregatta.com. Participants may register and pay online via our RegattaTech application or print out a registration form and mail in your entry and payment. The website also will enable participants and prospective entrants to see who has signed up for what classes, buy regatta gear and follow the results come February. Lodging, directions, related links and a regatta store also are featured online.

For participant, media and sponsor inquiries about the 2011 Charlotte Harbor Regatta, e-mail Brian Gleason at gleason@charlotteharborregatta.com.

Thanks for your interest in the Charlotte Harbor Regatta. We look forward to seeing you on beautiful Charlotte Harbor in February.

Seven Wetas are already in, with more than 10 expected in this five-class multihull event that is expected to draw more than 60 boats. Other classes include the Hobie 16, Hobie Wave, F16 and F18. For the F18s, the Charlotte Harbor Regatta is part of the Zhik Winter Series. Early entry and US Sailing discount get the registration fee to only $60 for three days of racing (except for Waves) and four nightly dinner parties Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 3-6, 2011. Room rates are available as low as $65 and premium accommodations go for only $105.

Early registration discount deadline is Dec. 31. With $10 off for early entries and a $5 US Sailing discount, you can get into this huge multihull event for only $60. With four nightly dinners included in the entry fee, you're essentially racing for free (or paying $60 for sailing and eating for free)!

By the way, I found a motel very close to the launching beach in Port Charlotte for $46 a night.
Go to www.sidestep.com and search for Hotels in Port Charlotte (not Punta Gorda) and select search all.
It will pop up about seven different pages.
Look for Knights Inn in Port Charlotte. Already have my reservations.

What's the F18 turnout looking like? Weighing the options of leaving our trailer down with 3 boats or driving back to New England after tradewinds.

Three F18s registered so far, with three days left before the Dec. 31, 2010 early entry deadline. Looking like a strong 50-60 boat multihull event that is sure to create some buzz on the beach. Great parties every night, too. All for $60 with early entry and US Sailing discount.

Brian,

We have heard good things about this location and race, but have never been.

For the uninformed, where is the The launching - beach complex. 1-so we can find it and 2 so I can sort some lodging.

Also, how is this regatta working.

There is no way we can make a 1700 skippers meeting on Thursday, and it is very unlikely we can make a Friday race given my current schedule.

Mybe it is there, and I missed, it, but is there anything for 2 day racing?

Thanks

Matt
