Any of you guys seen this?
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/20...es-getting-bigger-and.html#ixzz15MTrbj7Y"Using buoy data and models based on wind patterns, scientists say that the waves off the coast of the Pacific Northwest and along the Atlantic seaboard from West Palm Beach, Fla., to Cape Hatteras, N.C., are steadily increasing in size."
Looks like tough may be getting tougher.
I believe it (yesterday):
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Kna1Vz7P8bT6WyK0Z9Ib4s3v7NovcLugnp2-wGCSMwE?feat=directlinkIn all seriousness, the waves yesterday at Flagler were pretty big. Not big enough to make me sit a leg out but big enough to make me apprehensive about launching if it was an onshore breeze. The wind yesterday was a good 7-10 from the NNE which would have made for a nice reach off the beach.

Good thing we don't need to walk across the tramps.
Damn Tad,
What, are you new?
The true grace of a ballerina or maybe a pregnant yak.
I tripped on the leash.
I have large feet.
A laugh at my expense is welcomed... I do it everyday.

I don't know.. looks to me like you just fell over
Someone yelled "timber" off camera.
Its an autonomic response. I can't help it.

So what's the largest wave a T500 sailor has ever had to deal with?
A few years back, in W. Palm Beach maybe, a rogue wave completely washed over the beach and the sea wall!
For the T500 it was Jupiter start 2007 probably.
For the Worrell, Jesnsen Beach.
Here's some video of the Jupiter launch:

Maybe not.

This is news video clip from Singer Island yesterday. The vid is near the top right corner:
http://www.wflx.com/Global/story.asp?S=13503300On another note: Thank god I had my boat anchored well. The high tides/swells picked up the backend and moved it over so my boat was sideways on the beach. I have access to an online beach camera I use to check up on my boat.

You posted the wrong video.
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: T500 - 11/16/10 12:40 AM
The video is correct. It is a video showing rough/bordline rouge waves in Palm Beach area. I was making a second statement about my boat that lives in between where these tow videos were taken. About one mile North of where the fishermen were washed off of the inlet. I access the webcam via VPN. Can't post that info because you can move the camera around.

I can't see that video but the waves in Jupiter weren't really THAT large. It was the high frequency of waves combined with the lack of any significant breeze that was problematic.
After that start (or lack thereof), however, I feel so much more better equipped to handle that stuff after realizing how our approach was wrong...I want another whack at that kind of stuff.

Go to
www.adventureonline.tv. Click on "Sail" on the left hand side. Then scroll down to "Catamaran Wipeouts" There are 4 episodes. The third makes me cringe the most because thats my boat Mischa takes a broadside on.

Hi Pete,
Did not have time to click on his link. You could have been referring to mine as well. I clarified it anyway.

It's not that I can't find them...I can't view them from work. Internet blockers and all that. Besides, it's still vivid in my mind. Frank hanging on for dear life laying on the bow hanging onto chicken line and spin pole while I tried to make ground outbound on the surf. Both of us completely gassed from two attempts and nearly made it the second time. I wish I had been more knowledgeable about that stuff at the time.

The same seems to be happening in the South Atlantic. The big waves
here (hit "next"), were taken in the entrance of Guanabara Bay in July, with the Sugar Loaf in the back of the photographer. The reef is about 20 ft deep.
Now, this is how the place looks most of the time. The surf pictures are almost exactly where the motorboats are.
Take care,
This

I imagine the guy in that first picture is crapping his pants trying to paddle hard enough so that wave doesn't break on him

probably hard to put into words, but what would you have done differently if you knew then what you know now?

I think he would have just stayed in bed and saved a lot of money. Let's start a new thread on sailing through the surf.

This is Palm Beach (Lake Worth) Inlet last week.
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/weathe...p-currents-across-1049711.html?sort=descThe boat in the pics is a 17 foot Wahoo. I don't know how Cyberspeeds boat stayed on the beach.

Great Pic!!!
The beach where I keep my boat is pretty high up. I have a winch built into my sailbox to pull it up if needed. The increased surf put more sand on the beach in front of my condo than we have had since the Francis and Jeane double punch. Tuesday I am going to move my boat in front of my condo for the next few weeks. Working tomorrow but hope to be doing a lot of sailing this week.
Craig,
Is there anymore sand down in front of the Jupiter resort?
I love that stop but I hate having to "commute" to and from the hotel to the park.
Posted By: SC19 Re: T500 - 11/22/10 03:13 PM
Juno and Jupiter took a pretty hard beating. The sand is spotty and the beach is pretty narrow right now.
Yeah the reason we have to go down to the park is because the beach next to the resort is covered with rocks apparently.
Posted By: Jake Re: T500 - 11/22/10 04:06 PM
I heard tale that the Jupiter stop may be moving this year....unconfirmed.
That would be unfortunate, thats my favorite stop.
Not with the exposed coquina of the Pleistocene Anastasia Formation, it isn't. Geology - it's a bitch.
I was talking about the hotel there Jdub. Its bar-none the best one of the race and really, I wish we could spend more than one night there.
The tiki bar outside is amazing.

Wow...back on target. Hopefully I will be sailing by it at some point this week. I will try to get a bit of video as I am passing.
SC 19. I might be out on the water tomorrow (Tuesday) and need crew. Probably won't need it after tomorrow because I have a lot of family in town.
I met with Chuck a couple weeks ago and he is probably going to be moving it to Jensen Beach. He should have something official coming soon.

Thanks Craig.
Unfortunately I'm working all week. I'm off on Monday if you get out then.

Jensen isn't the biggest for the Worrell... Go check some of the videos on youtube. There's a great one of Jamie playing spiderman on the tramp as the boat gets launched.

That was Hatteras in '98 and it was a landing, we had to trailer the boats to Kill Devil Hills from there. Mike had to cancel the Hatteras/KDH leg due to conditions at the point/Cape Hatteras being all but unsurvivable even if you HAD made it through the surf.
