Do we have a complete entry list Craig?
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 02:00 PM
missing a few at this point
Posted By: ThunderMuffin Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 02:08 PM
PTP: The whole fleet isn't using the SPOTs. Only the teams that forked up the $30.
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 02:46 PM
It looks a great 2 days weather-wise for the race!

Does anyone know what the tracking site's refresh rate is? Or do you have to refresh on your own computer?

good question. I hit F5 a lot which will refresh it.
looks like the wind is supposed to fade today and then get blasting tomorrow afternoon
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 03:51 PM
Carbon cruising is doing between 7.2 and 7.7 knots. Not exactly a blistering pace , wind must be pretty light.
I wish the other M20 (Mike and Kenny) and the F20 Carbon (David and Mike) had spots. There would be some good info there.

Is Team Roberts in the water with a huge lead? or are they stationary sitting on trailer on/near Highway US1? They haven't seemed to have moved as far as I can tell....
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 04:04 PM
Looks like they are on the beach at Gilbert's. Either forgot their SPOT, put it somewhere it won't update or never left.
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 04:04 PM
From what I can tell, RC is CC (un-check the RC box), RM is the Nacra F20C. Roberts may have forgotten the tracker at the beach. I hope everyone is sailing.

Good to know about RM. ( are you sure, that's Krantz?)I wonder what happened to them? Is there a entry list somewhere,I can't find one.
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 04:11 PM
Maybe the OA could support us tonight with the sailors on the tracked teams so we can watch tomorrow!
Posted By: Jake Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 04:14 PM
Well over an hour to get to the card sound bridge? Might be a long day!
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 04:24 PM
and wind is supposed to get even less
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 04:43 PM
I just recieved a call from on the water...CC is ahead, Phillips is second and the RC22 is third. Winds are light and shifty. Boat ahead is working the shifts harder than the other 2 and extending. I'll get another update from the pass to the outside. Winds outside are a little stronger.
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 04:55 PM
JC work harder, who'da thunk it?
Posted By: Seeker Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:11 PM
What do you call light wind catamaran sailing in an area called “Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge”?
Answer: A voluntary participant in a viability study concerning mobile feeding platforms. AKA Live bait.
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:24 PM
what rating is the f20 using?
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:26 PM
The wind was straight on the nose going up to the angelfish. Started to fill in when I left the bridge. Should make better progress on the outside.
Roberts is running, somehow the spot got turned off. Probably when I installed it. I tried to check them all before they left but Roberts was on the water before I could double check it.
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:26 PM
First thru the cut to the outside is CC, followed 6 minutes later by the M20 of Phillips and side-by-side them is the Roberts on the RC22. Nacra F20 has not gone into the cut yet. Winds outside are 10kts and building. More to come....
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:34 PM
The Nacra F20 just went thru; 19 minutes behind the front runner. The chase boat is going in now so we'll see what happens at the finish of todays leg!
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:47 PM
what rating is the f20 using?
Same as the M20, I believe.
Posted By: Mike Hill Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:53 PM
Light wind on the nose would definitely favor the M20. They really excel in that condition.
The F20 I would think would excel in Medium winds downwind sailing. Medium being 12-18 knts.
So this might be a rough race for the F20 unless the wind does come up on the outside and the foils can come to life.

Craig,
Can you put up a full entry list, and show which teams have spots and who they are.
Good job ,so far. This is the first time I've watched . Not as good as being there , but way better than waiting a week for results.
Posted By: Mike Hill Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:58 PM
Can someone put peoples names to the boat names on the tracking page. Only one I know is
Dingo Racing = Dave Ingram and crew?
Posted By: Mike Hill Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 05:59 PM
Popping out of Angelfish before noon usually makes for a pretty good day. Now the chutes are up and they will be making pretty good time.
Wish I was there.
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 06:00 PM
Team Redhead is Mark Smith and Joe Pocreva
looks like they are doing well, at least in terms of teams with Spots
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 06:02 PM
CC carbon cruising is Bret Moss and John Casey
RM is Mike Krantz and David Lennard
TR is Mark Smith and Joe Pocreva
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 06:02 PM
where do they stop today on the map?
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 06:03 PM
About 1/2 way between where the last 2 Rt. 1 markers are on the map, right before the turn under the Channel 5 bridge.
Check off "show split points" in the menu ,it says Steeple half. Craig has done a nice job on this.

I am sitting on my porch, wind indicator says 1 knt out of the north. Brutal.....
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 06:47 PM
Hi Guys,
Sorry had some ground crew duties to do for Roberts. I did not get a full entry list. The one on registration should be correct:
http://www.catsailor.com/registration/list-entries.php?regatta=104I had to twist some arms this morning to get some on so I was not able to get all the info from the individual teams. I will try to get it all straighted out when I get to the half way mark.
Posted By: Mike Hill Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 06:57 PM
Craig, That link is the Tradewinds Registration page.
Posted By: Mike Hill Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 07:01 PM
Looking like a dead downwind run on the outside. That would make for a long day. Hope the wind turns a little for them.
Posted By: arbo06 Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 07:20 PM
What happened to Carbon Crusing's spot?
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 07:26 PM
Nothing.
Make sure you have them checked off in the menu box.
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 07:53 PM
It is the CC spot. The RC was race committe and I accidently gave CC's unit info.

Wind forcast for the rest of the day looks brutally light.
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 09:28 PM
So I guess the next question to ask is how long after sunset will the Hobie 16 come in?
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 09:33 PM
Team redhead is not Green.
Mark Smith and Joe Pocreva
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/11/10 10:17 PM

Finish order so far is:
Moss
Phillips
Roberts
Krantz
Burd
Newkirk
Zellmer
Smith
Riccardi
Langefeld
Ingram
Malesci
Still five boats out. Very light air. RC (Rick) is leaving the beach. The rest will have to take their own scores.
Still out are:
Greg Vadasdi, F18
Jan Majer, F18HT
Steven Craemer, Hobie 16
Scott Rathburn, F18
Dick Macdonald, Nacra 5.8

Jan Majer now in, and Scott Rathburn coming soon.
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 03:12 AM
Hobie 16 in at 10:06
Clan MacDonald less than two miles out.
Any more boats after that?
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 02:07 PM
Has there been a postponement today because of the late arrivals last night?
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 02:30 PM
They are moving now!
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 02:50 PM
faster than they went at any point yesterday!
Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 03:06 PM
I wish the other M20 and the Nacra F20C had tracking units. It's probably a 4 boat race up front.
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 03:46 PM
The Capricorn was the last boat that got in last night at 11pm.
All boats started on time today. No issues and everyone got through Channel 5 bridge ok!
All boats with trackers are checking in ok.
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 03:48 PM
The Nacra Carbon F20 was a little farther back the the other three boats going under the Channel 5 Bridge.
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 04:06 PM
ugh, speeds back down to 5kn. whats the wind?
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 04:16 PM
I checked in with the my spot unit. Marked as RC. The first boats are approaching:

The wind may be getting ready to shift more westerly meaning kites!
Posted By: cyberspeed Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 04:39 PM
Kites are out on lead boats. Starting to go up on the F18 fleet who is grouped together.

Blowing dogs off chains here in Orlando... If they don't have this wind yet they will soon.
Easily gusting to 25
Posted By: Team_Cat_Fever Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 05:25 PM
My guess is ,JC's not real happy right now. Looks like Team Roberts in the lead. Eric seems like a good guy...
Posted By: barbshort Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 05:36 PM
Todd Riccardi just called. Says they've been paddling for 3 hours and are bailing here at Founders Park.
Posted By: PTP Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 05:36 PM
who is driving? JC or the other guy.
Posted By: barbshort Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 05:44 PM
I hope Todd isn't calling it too soon. We've been in the lull before the front, but the breeze is starting to pick up.
Posted By: RickWhite Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 05:58 PM
Todd is worried about catching a flight. Nora Zellmer is heading Founders to haul them. Said she would call if different

Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 07:24 PM

Posted By: Bob_Curry Re: Steeplechase Tracking - 12/12/10 10:49 PM
Thanks Craig, the trackers were outstanding! Maybe for next year the 30 dollars can be added to the reg fee and all the boats will have one. I guess I have to go watch football now.....

Don't know what the permissions are and whether you can get to this facebook album or not, but i'll throw it out there and see. Photographer is a friend from our sailing club and they were out on their beeg 30' cruising cat. they don't frequent this forum, so i'm going to try to share this. She got pics of the top boats near the finish line.
