Has anybody information about old Hobie 13???? - 01/19/11 12:17 PM

i am searching for a lightweighted cartopable cat for one or two people. Not race interested. I saw small infor about a Hobie 13. Must be a cata build before the Hobie dragoon. As the internet said, this cat weighs only 82kg!!!! I would like to know if this cat is really as lightweighted and if it carries two people, can be assembled easy after cartopping and if performance is ok for a 13. (This is not the banana hulls! as the old 3.5!!!) Looks like a dragoon

Thanks for information,
Michael

Hobie Europe product, so maybe someone in the Euro market has some background on this one.

I recall the Hobie sales sheet showing the boat quite low in the water with a single adult aboard. Without the raised trampoline on the 14/16 it looked like it could be a bit of a wet ride.
I don't know where you're based but the Catapult could be a better option for a 1 or 2 person car-topable cat. Also consider the Sprint 15 (Dart 15/Spark).

A Trac 14 can be car topped--it comes apart and goes back together very easily. It has plenty of buoyancy for two people.

It has knobs like a water spigot on the beams that screw the hulls together.

The Trac 14 is also called a Windrush in Australia, where it's still being manufactured. I know they were originally billed as being car-toppable, but I've been sailing one for a couple of years and I don't think I'd care to do it without a trailer due to setup time.

We had a Hobie 13 in Div 4. Perhaps Matt, has some data. Smaller than a H14, wooden rudders, and lower hulls. I think Hobie US only made it for a short time.

He's looking at a different boat - the Hobie 13 produced by Hobie Europe in the late '80s / early '90s.

The Hobie 3.5 (11 ft - what you're referring to) is a completely different boat.
