Horn Island Hop NOR/Registration

Slip to Ship was a resounding success! Fun was had by all and I appreciate the huge support we received. Its now time to come back for the Island Hop and enjoy the ride to the beautiful Horn Island for more fun in the sun. Day 2 will be the last chance this year to capture the coveted prize of the fastest time around Deer Island! Charlie and Holly missed the mark by 4 minutes!!!!!

Come celebrate your 4th of July weekend with us and bring your family. The OSYC is an ideal place to spend a great weekend enjoying all the entertainment we have to offer. See you there!!

Hey, thanks for the note! Horn Island rocks, the water is beautiful, it's a perfect run offshore that's not too far, but far enough to feel like you've gone somewhere.

And for the faint of heart, there's chase boats, radios, LOTs of other boats on the water to help in any way needed... Then, get to the island, enjoy some food and drink... talk about the trip out, take a dip in the water, or a nap in the shade. On the way back, it's usually a beautiful downhill run.

Anyone who hasn't tried it... is missing out. Take advantage of the long weekend!

Sailors. Only two weeks away. Remember to register before June 24, 2011 to avoid the dreaded $10.00 late registration fee. This will really help us make sure that we have enough food, mead and fun on tap. This year, our theme is Reggae which will include a great band and food not to be missed on our Saturday night party. Tell your friends and join the fun for a long weekend at OSYC.

I'm in!... I'll be on the Hobie 18, I don't think my back is up to sheeting a spinnaker for 12 miles.

"Ya'll" have a good time!
If not for going to NYC to see the new grandbaby, Lynn and I would consider the 18 hour trip just to enjoy the hospitality again.
Great venue, even greater folks
Nice to meet you all
...and Lynn says "Hi!"

So what happened on day 1?

Re: Horn Island Hop, 2-3 July, Ocean Springs Yacht Club, MS - 07/04/11 03:26 AM

Day 1 had a nice 6 - 12 knots out of the south, which made for lots of shift playing on the way out to the island. Chicken/refreshments/story telling, then a sled ride back. The sled ride started out light but built, again with tactical calls required to make each jybe pay (or not in my case!). Packed house at the club for dinner as the holiday crowd partied past my bed time. Last I saw Robby had a tray full of about a dozen doozie blue shots of something lethal.

Day 2 saw the breeze build a bit earlier, with a S-SW breeze that made for an on the nose trip out the channel to 2, followed by a nice tight reach over to the turning channel mark, with a nice spin run down the channel to the finish.

Results in the spin fleet were pretty similar to Slip 2 Ship, and Charlie and Holly keep unleashing the power of the Alum N20 rig - in all wind conditions. Andy and Michael rocked steady into a close 2nd, and Renee did her best to keep my head in the game to hold on to a 3rd. And an attaboy goes out to Mike Borden for a 2nd place finish on the return trip Saturday! Downwind Uni on a spin boat will drain ya, but he was full of well deserved smiles on the beach!!

Great job by Ken/Joe/Kevin/et al. Those guys have had a killer last month and deserve a few weekends off the water. See you all at Juana's!
