Does anyone know which manufacturers sent (are going to send) their application, besides AHPC (Viper), Nacra (F16), Roland Gabler (Tornado), Alex Oudin/Martin Fisher (for the Phantom 18, a lightened F18)?

For pure entertainment value, sure.

Who here is directly affected by the equipment choice?

Well, if they pick the Wave I am pretty sure we'll pick up a sh!t-ton more sailors in the racing groups........

My guess is that anybody who currently has a boat that is picked, and anybody who wants to buy the kind of boat that happens to get picked.

That seems quite INdirect to me...

To me, direct would be if the equipment that is picked excludes you from a campaign you were actively planning on doing. While there is no shortage of people here that will swear the sky is falling at times (as various announcements are made), the number of people here directly affected is less than one hand, perhaps less than one finger.

Direct/indirect/no impact are decisions we make daily at work. Same logic applies here.

Wow, such a restrictive definition of "direct." In that case, the olympic committee's choice impacts me more directly than most of what I hear in the news.

I think it is safe to say that direct vs indirect is not a dichotomy, there are varying degrees of directness and we don't have to agree on where the line is drawn.

In my (heavily regulated) industry, direct vs. indirect is absolutely a dichotomy. There are degrees within indirect.

This is acutally a good thing, it makes other decisions much easier to make.

I hope the Tiger is chosen as the O-class and made illegal to run in the F-18 series. Then I would have to buy a new boat to run F-18 on.

I think it would have the opposite effect, after an initial spike in Wave sailors in the first quadrennium you would see a big drop with a net loss in the number of Wave sailors by the second quad. Historically that’s the way things tend to go.
